Cytotechnologist examines cells of the cytoplasm and nucleus to determine pathological conditions. Separates sediment and cells from blood serum and categorizes slides and records classification. Being a Cytotechnologist receives and prepares specimens for analysis. Detects abnormalities and communicates to pathologist to arrive at a final diagnosis and report. Additionally, Cytotechnologist requires a bachelor's degree. Requires graduation from an approved school of cytotechnology and American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or I.C.A. registration. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Cytotechnologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Job Title: Cytotechnologist

    Shift: Day shifts

    Job Type: Full-time

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree
    • Certification/licensing for cytotechnology (CT) from an approved school of cytotechnology
    • American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) certification, I.C.A registration, or equivalent

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Minimum of three years of experience

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Stain, mount, and study cells to detect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities, and other pathological conditions following established standards and practices.
    2. Examine cell samples to detect abnormalities in the color, shape, or size of cellular components and patterns.
    3. Submit slides with abnormal cell structures to pathologists for further examination.
    4. Document specimens by verifying patient and specimen information.
    5. Prepare and analyze samples such as Papanicolaou (PAP) smear, body fluids, and fine needle aspirations (FNAs) to detect abnormal conditions.
    6. Maintain effective laboratory operations by adhering to standards of specimen collection, preparation, or laboratory safety.
    7. Adjust, maintain, or repair laboratory equipment such as microscopes.
    8. Perform karyotyping or organizing of chromosomes according to standardized ideograms.
    9. Assign tasks or coordinate task assignments to ensure the adequate performance of laboratory activities.
    10. Perform other duties as assigned.
