Database Engineer plans, designs, develops, and manages an organization's databases to ensure efficient data storage, access, and security. Collaborates with users to design, code, test, debug, and deploy databases that meet requirements and organizational needs. Being a Database Engineer writes queries, stored procedures and functions for database development. Monitors databases' performance, scalability, and security and modifies procedures to optimize database designs. Additionally, Database Engineer evaluates existing database design to determine necessary updates, performance tuning, and integration requirements. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of database technologies and solid coding and computer system skills. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Database Engineer work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Database Engineer typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. The DB2 Database Administrator (DBA) incumbent is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of database management system (DBMS) objects, supporting DBMS applications, implementing effective DBMS performance monitoring and corporate security practices defined by the Information security. , and coordinating issues with systems support. The DBA is responsible to ensure data integrity, backup and recoverability of production databases and also responsible for coordinating with systems support teams to implement effective system configurations for optimal performance of the databases. Job-Specific Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, or IT related field is required. Must have at least 5 years of DBA experience with DB2 Relational Databases and associated tools in a mainframe environment. Experience with SQL including DDL, DML, and DCL. Experience with standard IBM utilities and tools including Image Copy, Recovery, REORG, RUNSTATS, Load, Bind, Explain, SPUFI and FileAiD. Experience with CA database Administration tools such as Detector, Insight and Migrator is required. Excellent understanding of relational data base technology and data modeling including the Knowledge on Netezza database appliance, data warehouse modeling, Star Schema and Big data preferred. Knowledge of CA Top Secret is preferred. Knowledge of other relational database technologies is preferred. Knowledge of effective procedures and techniques involved in data base programming.
