Purpose of Position: To help students gain the greatest benefit from the school’s educational opportunities and to help them achieve the fullest benefits from the school’s nonacademic programs, services, and help to resolve such nonacademic problems as may interfere with their experience. Fostering a sense of valued belonging in the educational setting is the primary effort.
Minimum Qualifications: Three years teaching experience at the high school level preferred (or similar duties). Administrative and/or Counselor license helpful. Focus on and commitment to the success of every student.
Required Skills: - Ability to read, interpret, and explain high school requirements, board documents and policy and Stage and academic standards.
- Ability to make effective presentations and inspire student achievement
- Ability to interpret and analyze data
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and individuals
- Ability to interpret board policy, administrative procedures, and KSDE rules and regulations.
Supervisor: High School Principal
Responsibilities: - Shares with the principal the responsibility for protecting the safety, health and welfare of students.
- Shares responsibility for certifying students for graduation and postsecondary education and opportunities.
- Encourages student attendance, encourages student progress, and helps enrich elements of character building, employability, and further success.
- Assists individual students and, when necessary, makes appropriate referrals for testing, guidance, or other counseling. Works cooperatively with the guidance offices and college/university offices of admission and the Cowley College personnel.
- Acts as a student liaison addressing all problems in a fair and just manner.
- Helps coordinate the registration, classification, scheduling, and testing of students.
- When necessary, assist with matters of urgent concern.
- Confers with parents, guardians, teachers, counselors, support services personnel, and students on matters of concern.
- Confers with and makes appropriate referrals to psychologists, counselors, social workers, and other personnel.
- Has general supervisory responsibility for student activities, athletic events, programs of student orientation, and similar activities.
- Supervises development, maintenance, and distribution of student information, calendars, handbooks, schedules, bulletins, and the like.
- Encourages and facilitates student character development.
- Encourages post-secondary learning opportunities and job readiness.
- Works to coordinate internships and workplace learning opportunities.
- Assists with campus supervision.
Salary and Benefits: Commensurate with experience and duty level. Contract for salary and benefits subject to Board approval.
