Dean of Fine Arts manages administrative functions of the college of fine arts. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Fine Arts leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Fine Arts requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Fine Arts manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Fine Arts typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     We are currently looking for a full-time Dean of Culinary Arts. In conjunction with the Executive Dean of the College of Hospitality (COH), the Dean is responsible for providing vision, leadership and management for their respective program(s). The Dean supervises all program activities, curriculum and faculty assigned.

    The typical schedule for this position will be Monday-Friday 6:30 am-2:30 pm with some evenings and weekends required.

    Responsibilities of the position include:

    Curriculum and Assessment:

    • Develops, implements, and administers goals and processes that facilitate and assess:
      • continuous improvement of all programs
      • student learning outcomes in accordance with program assessment plans.
    • Works with Executive Dean to prepare and present annual assessment of student learning and continuous improvement activities to the University’s Planning and Evaluation Coordinating Council (PECC).
    • Evaluates, develops, and maintains all area specific curriculum in cooperation with the respective faculty, the Provost, and the Curriculum Committee.
    • Oversees the development and maintenance of area specific syllabi.
      • Ensures course descriptions and objectives of syllabi match catalog.
      • Ensures the master course syllabi repository is up to date.
    • Ensures instructors utilize learning management system and curriculum as directed in accordance with course objectives, student learning outcomes and within guidelines of faculty academic freedom.
    • Oversees the selection of area specific course open educational resources, text materials, open educational resources (OER), equipment, library support materials, technology, etc.
    • In collaboration with the assigned academic leadership, conducts regular departmental and curriculum review meetings; submits minutes on a quarterly basis to the Provost.

    Scheduling

    • Prepares annual class schedules and instructor quarterly class assignments schedules for programs with the assistance of the assigned academic leadership, finalizing both with the Executive Director of Academic Operations and Institutional Effectiveness. Final quarterly instructor class assignment schedules should be reviewed by location academic administrator and approved by the Provost.
    • In collaboration with the assigned academic leadership and University Registrar ensures course offerings are appropriate and efficiently meets the needs of the institution.


    Faculty

    • Conducts, with assistance of assigned academic leadership and location academic administrators, bi-annual faculty (i.e., full and part time) course/classroom observations.
    • Creates and conducts annual faculty performance reviews, which include recommendations from academic leadership and location academic administrators.
    • Hires and supervises faculty with the assistance of the assigned academic leadership and location academic administrators.
    • In collaboration with assigned academic leadership and Provost ensures faculty course assignments are appropriate based on documented faculty credentials.
    • Ensures all assigned faculty members teach appropriate course loads (based on the teaching load rubric) and perform functions of a faculty member as indicated on the faculty job description.
    • Verifies class assignment eligibility and supervises faculty (i.e., full and part time) from other colleges when teaching courses within the assigned college program-specific curricula.


    Other

    • Promotes academic programs offered by the college, internally and externally.
    • Ensures all programs, curriculum and faculty are accurate within institutional catalog/catalog addendum errata, website and other published materials.
    • Works in conjunction with respective faculty to ensure compliance with accrediting and other regulatory criteria/standards as it relates to course and program offerings.
    • Promotes a productive academic environment for faculty and students.
    • In collaboration with the assigned academic leadership, facilitates the resolution of student issues and complaints of the courses under purview.
    • In collaboration with assigned academic leadership and the location academic administrators, ensures classroom and equipment are available to ensure goals of classroom instruction are achieved.
    • In addition to management/administrative duties, teaches course load as assigned by the Provost (based on the teaching load rubric) and performs functions of a faculty member as indicated on the faculty job description.
    • Serves as a member of the Academic Council and other committees as assigned.
    • In collaboration with the Executive Dean, oversees an external college advisory committee to support the needs of the academic programs.
    • Administers and participates in the faculty professional development program for their respective college.
    • Assists in providing accommodations to students with ADA issues and ensuring faculty involvement when appropriate.
    • Promotes the University in cooperation with the Admissions Department as necessary.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    Requirements of the position include:

    • Minimum of a Master’s degree in related field
    • Industry specific certifications are preferred.
    • Extensive practitioner and leadership experience; experience in higher education preferred.
    • An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
    • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills required. The Sullivan University System
    • Knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Explorer required.
    • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently while meeting required deadlines.
    • Knowledgeable in programmatic material for department.
    • Ability to function efficiently in a stressful work environment.
    • Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods to time and move about the campus
    • Must be able to hear and speak well enough to communicate with students, faculty, and staff face to face and via the telephone.
