Dean of Fine Arts manages administrative functions of the college of fine arts. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Fine Arts leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Fine Arts requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Fine Arts manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Fine Arts typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Position Summary

    The University of New Mexico-Gallup invites applications for a full-time Lecturer III in Fine Arts (with emphasis on managing the campus art gallery and teaching painting, drawing, and printmaking courses) to begin in August 2024. We are one of four branch community colleges of the University of New Mexico and serve approximately 2200 students. Located in Gallup NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, UNM-Gallup is situated in the Four Corners region and near the Navajo Nation, Zuni Pueblo, and Hopi Reservation. The city of Gallup has a population of 22,000 and the surrounding areas provide an abundance of outdoor recreational activities, various museums and extraordinary cultural vibrancy, while maintaining a small-town feel.

    UNM-Gallup serves a hugely diverse student population with 100 full-time and part-time faculty members. We are fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, offering Associate degrees, selected Bachelor’s degrees, Career Technical Education certificate programs, and adult basic education (ABE/GED), workforce training, and personal enrichment courses. UNM-Gallup serves multiple high school populations including McKinley Academy, Middle College High School, and the Center for Career and Technical Education.

Lecturers at UNM-G have career advancement opportunities that are outlined in the UNM Faculty Handbook and faculty union collective bargaining agreement.

    The successful candidate will be expected to teach 18 credits per academic year in the areas of Painting, Drawing, foundations and Printmaking, manage the campus art gallery, maintain an active scholarship/service record (as defined by the UA-UNM CBA), participate in monthly Division meetings, and execute other relevant duties as agreed upon in conjunction with the division chair in an annual faculty-chair agreement. In addition, the selected candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through actively practicing inclusive behavior and proactively managing bias.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications: 

    • Master’s in Fine Arts degree in a studio art discipline from an accredited institution.
    • At least two years of experience in managing a campus art gallery.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience teaching lower-level studio arts courses in the disciplines of painting, drawing, foundations, and printmaking.
    • College-level teaching experience at a branch community college or similar institution.
    • Demonstrated experience working with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
    • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
