Dean of Nursing manages administrative functions of the college of nursing. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Nursing leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Nursing requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. Requires certification as a registered nurse. The Dean of Nursing manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Nursing typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     General Job Summary

    The Dean of Nursing reports directly to the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and is responsible for administering one academic program area. The Dean will hire, supervise and evaluate approximately 16 full-time faculty members and support staff, and will provide oversight for the overall department and program budgets.

    The typical work schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.

    Duties/Responsibilities

    • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of the department’s goals and priorities and monitor their achievement.
    • Direct the preparation of the annual budget for department and supervise its implementation.
    • Recommend staff for appointment, assignment and other personnel actions and supervise and evaluate the faculty and staff.
    • Coordinate the preparation and submission of all reports and studies that are required from the department.
    • Assist in providing for proper facilities, equipment and materials to meet the needs of the instructional programs.
    • Cooperate with other departments and offices within the College to foster communications and services to meet the educational needs of students.
    • Maintain contacts with area high schools and colleges, appropriate businesses, agencies, and community organizations and individuals in the College’s service area.
    • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in a field related to one or more of the discipline areas of responsibility or in administration required.
    • Current licensure as a registered nurse
    • Two years of experience in clinical nursing.
    • Two years of experience in nursing education.

    LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

    • Licensure as a Registered Nurse

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

    • Preferred DNP and/or PhD in Nursing.
    • College teaching experience and previous administrative or supervisory experience preferred.
    • Community college experience.
    • Previous experience in curriculum development preferred.
