Diet Technician provides assistance in all food service functions to ensure compliance with patients' prescribed nutrition plans. Screens and identifies patients with nutritional risk using scoring guidelines, and initiates referrals for dietetic assessment. Being a Diet Technician institutes basic nutrition plans including individualized menu plans. Accurately edits patients' menu selections according to nutrition standards to ensure patients receive food that is compliant with diet orders. Additionally, Diet Technician monitors intake and acceptance of required meals and supplements. Tracks patients' food intake and calorie count results. Requires an associate degree. Typically requires Dietetic Technician - Registered (DTR). Typically reports to a dietitian. The Diet Technician works under moderate supervision. Job Objectives:

Education/Knowledge/Skills:
A high school diploma or its equivalent is required, with course work to include English, mathematics and grammar. Must be able to read with comprehension, write legibly and perform simple arithmetic calculations. Must be familiar with general office practices such as accurate filing and effective general office machine usage, and must possess excellent telephone skills. Must be capable of performing repetitive clerical tasks on a continuous basis. Must show good judgment and reliability and be able to work without direct supervision.
Experience:
A minimum of six months’ experience in a clerical position is preferred.
