Distribution Center Manager manages the overall planning, organizing, and operations of a distribution center. Oversees all distribution functions, including order processing, picking, packaging, shipping, and receiving. Being a Distribution Center Manager monitors inventory levels to ensure sufficient levels to fulfill all orders. Balances workloads as needed to achieve production and delivery goals for each shift. Additionally, Distribution Center Manager utilizes software, data, and analytics to optimize operations, track production metrics, and anticipate and resolve problems. Provides the necessary equipment, tools, and training to staff to ensure safe, secure, and efficient operations. Complies with all OSHA and other regulations, policies, safety procedures, and documentation requirements. May evaluate and select transportation or freight services, negotiate contracts, and manage vendor relations. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Distribution Center Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Distribution Center Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Summary:
    The HCS Distribution Center Manager is responsible for overseeing daily activities of the centralized distribution center, supporting UNC Health Care System. This position is responsible for monitoring inventory levels to manage expenses, minimize loss, and maximize revenue. The position has principal operational responsibility for ensuring goods are dispatched on time to the appropriate destinations and in the expected quantities including responsibility for evaluating freight service, participating in contract negotiations and managing relationships with chosen supply and service vendors.


    Responsibilities:
    1. Best Practices - Develop performance standards and best in class (BIC) benchmarking standards. Improve processes and policies in support of organizational goals. Formulate and implement departmental and organizational policies and procedures to maximize output. Monitor adherence to rules, regulations and procedures. Oversee maintenance of inventory levels, monitoring system and maintaining clinical and nursing floor inventory levels. Develop and maintain courier program, including development of an ?emergency service? delivery system.
    2. Communication - Monitor, manage and improve efficiency of support services such as IT, HR, Accounting and Finance. Facilitate coordination and communication between support functions.
    3. Coordination and Supervision - Coordinate, manage and monitor the workings of various departments in the distribution center.
    4. Customer Service - Manage customer support. Manage and maintain the supply chain relationship with nursing units, clinics, diagnostic areas, operating room and outpatient day-op, pharmacy, home health/infusion and other units at UNC Hospitals or other UNCHCS entities).
    5. Financial - Oversee overall financial management, planning, systems and controls. Review financial statements and data. Utilize financial data to improve reduce supply and supply distribution cost leading to improved profitability for the system. Prepare and control operational budgets. Control inventory. Plan effective strategies for the financial well-being of the company.
    6. Human Resources - Plan the use of human resources. Organize recruitment and placement of required staff. Establish organizational structures. Delegate tasks and accountabilities. Establish work schedules. Supervise staff. Monitor and evaluate performance.
    7. Production - Coordinate and monitor the work of various departments involved in production, warehousing, pricing and distribution of goods. Monitor performance and implement improvements. Ensure quality of products. Manage quality and quantity of employee productivity. Manage maintenance of equipment and machinery. Provide technical support where necessary.
    8. Reporting/Analysis -
    9. Strategic Input - Liaison with top management. Assist in the development of strategic plans for operational activity. Implement and manage operational plans. Lead role in Operational Efficiency/Lean project teams when and where appropriate. Provide support to reduce inventory levels and increase efficiencies at the SSC as well as reduce inventories at HCS entities.
