EEG Technician performs electroencephalograms in accordance with established practices and procedures. Attaches electrodes to the patient. Being an EEG Technician records impulse frequencies and differences in electrical potential between various areas of the brain to obtain data for use in the diagnosis of brain disorders. Provides preliminary diagnostic evaluation and notifies neurologist of results of examinations. Additionally, EEG Technician consults with neurologist to establish requirements for non-standard examinations and determines technical factors to satisfy requirements. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The EEG Technician works under moderate supervision. POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides competent technical skills in the operation of equipment used to record electroencephalograms. Provides quality electroencephalographic examinations and ensures proper care and operation of equipment used. Provides long-term monitoring for epilepsy.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High school graduation or equivalent is required. A minimum of one (1) year experience independently performing EEG procedures in a hospital or clinical setting is required; OR a minimum of one (1) year training and completion of required competency assessments in the UHS NDC as an EEG Technician Trainee.
