Electric and Gas Operations Supervisor supervises work crews involved in construction, maintenance, and repair of electric and/or gas distribution systems. Monitors and inspects sites to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Being an Electric and Gas Operations Supervisor ensures all work is completed according to safety policies and procedures. Requires an associate degree in the related area. Additionally, Electric and Gas Operations Supervisor has full authority and may be considered lower middle management. Typically reports to a manager or a head of a unit/department. The Electric and Gas Operations Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be an Electric and Gas Operations Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.   • Responsibilities

    GENERAL DUTIES The normal duties may include but are not limited to : 1. Employees will be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures, and practices.

    2. Employee acting in conjunction with supervision, or individually as directed by supervision, will assist and / or direct the training of other employees in the correct operating procedures necessary to fully satisfy the classification duties of Operator, and all lower classifications within the subject line of progression, or other duties with which the employee is familiar.

    3. Employee will, when directed by supervision, report to assigned locations for the purpose of receiving training and will actively participate in the training activities.

    4. Employee will carry out assignments in the training for and / or performing fire fighting and first aid. 5. Employee will exhibit an adequate competency level pertaining to activities delineated in the Duties and Qualifications sections of this job classification.

    Employee will also demonstrate such competency via performance of job duties and training and testing programs administered at intervals prescribed by Louisville Gas and Electric, to assure correct classification of employees.

    6. Employee will, during the normal performance of duties, watch for and promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury.

    7. Employee will perform duties of lower or higher classifications that are incidental to the job, and are within his / her capabilities including those needed for the purpose of training in the requirements of the higher classifications.

    8. Employee will keep all equipment, tools, materials, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition. 9. Employee will report as directed to any station for any shift where needed.

    10. Employee will perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment. 11.

    Employee will compile information and generate reports, forms, and documents required. 12. Employee will represent the Company to the community with attention to the highest standard of conduct, appearance, and attitude.

    SPECIFIC DUTIES 1. Employees will operate station control boards and consoles efficiently and safely, assuming unit responsibility, and direct the startup and shutdown of auxiliary equipment as changes in demand dictate.

    2. Employee will operate station equipment in a manner such that proper speeds, pressures, temperatures, flows, and efficiencies are maintained.

    3. Employee will take necessary action to adjust, correct, eliminate and report any abnormal condition indicated by observation, alarm, or annunciator.

    4. Employee will direct, train, and assist employees of lower classifications. 5. Employee will perform the switching functions per the Lockout Tagout program.

    6. Employee will be responsible for reporting any spill or environmental non-compliance to the supervisor in a timely manner.

    7. Employee will be knowledgeable in spill prevention, control, and notification. 8. Employee will ensure the proper disposal of hazardous materials.

    9. Employee will perform and / or assist in the performance of all duties assigned to lower classifications within this line of progression.

    10. Employee will be knowledgeable of the Station Emergency Action Plan. 11. Employee will perform duties which will require the use of personal protective equipment.

    12. The employee will be proficient in the use of computers, and the use of company information systems.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE-MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY INTO : GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS 1. Employee must meet all general qualifications of employment.

    2. Employee must be able to speak, understand, read, and write English, and be able to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

    3. Employee must have education or knowledge equivalent to that normally represented by satisfactory completion of the requirements of a high school diploma, or equivalent.

    4. Employee must be able to learn to use the tools and equipment required in the work. 5. Employee must be thoroughly familiar with the Company Safety Rules, and willingly see that they are enforced.

    6. Employee must have a valid state driver’s license and pass a given test for operating Company vehicles, as required. 7.

    Employee must be willing to work inside and outside under varying weather conditions. 8. Employee must be willing to report, as directed, to any station for any shift where needed.

    9. Employee must be in good health, and be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, which include work at heights, heavy manual labor and the ability to wear all required PPE.

    10. Employee must be willing and able to communicate through both verbal and written reports. 11. Employee must demonstrate the ability to make and read drawings and sketches.

    12. Employee must have demonstrated ability to carry through work assignments, and conduct himself / herself in a manner that encourages cooperation and satisfactory work from others assigned to work with him / her.

    13. Employee must have demonstrated proficiency in the ability to perform the duties associated with the lower classification(s) within the line of progression.

    14. Employee must be able to lead, direct, and train other employees assigned to work with him / her to obtain satisfactory work results.

    15. Employee must be rated Qualified for entry into this classification under the Louisville Gas and Electric Company’s Employee Performance Review Program, and have satisfactorily completed all applicable training and testing programs.

    16. Regular attendance is a condition of employment. 17. Employee must be observant and have normal color vision acuity in addition to being able to detect abnormal operations through sight, sound, and smell.

    SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS-SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS 1. Employee must demonstrated exceptional proficiency in performing all duties as an Assistant Operator, have at least 24 months experience as an Assistant Operator in Operations, or the equivalent, and have successfully completed all training and testing programs required in that classification.

    2. Employee must have a thorough knowledge of the station layout, and all pertinent equipment necessary to produce electricity.

    3. Employee must have a good working knowledge of steam and electric generation. 4. Employee must have a thorough knowledge of all auxiliary equipment, and the relationship of this equipment to boiler, turbine, generator, FGD and SCR.

    5. Employee must have above average knowledge of systems pertinent to boiler, turbine, and generator operation such as turbine / generator lubricating systems, service water systems, combustion air and gas systems, fuel systems, etc.

    6. Employee must have an above average knowledge of systems pertinent to FGD operations involving sulfur dioxide removal, reactant feed supply, reactant prep system, GPP, thickeners, ash conveying, station ash water system, forced oxidation air systems, slurry handling, waste disposal, etc.

    7. Employee must have an above average knowledge of equipment and Lockout Tagout procedures. 8. Employee must have a working knowledge of water treatment including the sodium softeners and the ion exchangers.

    9. Employee must be willing to train employees in the proper operation of power generation equipment. 10. Employee must be willing to work in the station maintenance program when needed.

    WORK CONDITIONS-Industrial work environment including exposures to temperature extremes (hot, cold) associated with inspection and operation of power plant equipment and systems.

    Work includes heights (ladders, platforms, stairs, etc.) and proximity to high-voltages. Dust and debris associated with fossil fuels and fuel by-products.

    Respirator use required.

    PHYSICAL EFFORTS-Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from the ground to the height of 30 inches on a daily basis; Typical equipment / materials that must be lifted includes but is not limited to tools, materials, bags of oil dri, barrels of liquid;

    Able to climb up and down stairs and vertical ladders unassisted on a hourly basis.
