Job Summary - Director, Nursing Emergency Services - Dearborn/ Grosse Pointe
The Director of Nursing, Emergency Services - Dearborn/Grosse Pointe is a registered professional nurse who provides leadership and management to the emergency department(s) (and other units as assigned) through the application of advanced competencies in communication, job knowledge, professionalism and business skills. He/she provides clinical and business direction to the department of Emergency Services through the development and implementation of new programs, manages department operations and staff to achieve growth, customer satisfaction and financial objectives. He/she demonstrates exceptional leadership to effectively navigate a matrixed partnership with nursing leadership, hospital leadership, medical staff and other departments to create a center of excellence for emergency service and to meet or exceed the hospital's and service line's mission, vision and goals.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Maintains 24-hour responsibility and accountability for providing leadership and management of the emergency center which promotes quality care, cost effective use of resources and professional growth for nursing staff. Areas of responsibility may include multiple locations.
Essential Functions - Director, Nursing Emergency Services - Dearborn/Grosse Pointe
- Provides direction and leadership to achieve the division’s short and long-term goals and outcomes.
- Demonstrates leadership skills, consistent with system Mission and Vision to select, train, develop, empower, coach, delegate work assignments, and evaluate performance.
- Collaborates with Dir Sr., medical leadership, medical staff, nursing staff, other departments and/or professional groups to develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services that support patient care delivery, plan effective utilization of facilities, equipment, and workforce, and promotes timely and efficient patient throughput.
- Develops staffing patterns for the emergency department according to national benchmarks and productivity analyses.
- Develops, maintains, and evaluates a professional practice environment that empowers and supports staff. Encourages shared decision-making, accountability, and autonomy in nursing practice. Establishes and promotes a framework for professional nursing practice which includes mission, vision, core values, evidence-based practice and standards of practice.
- Serves as a role model and mentor to staff, colleagues and students.
- Oversees hiring, training, evaluation and engagement of staff members, ensuring Patient Experience behaviors are demonstrated always. In collaboration with Human Resources ensure the achievement of Department Goals including employee satisfaction, staff retention, and performance while optimizing resource consumption.
- Ensures and enhances facility, safety, and regulatory outcomes including TJC, CMS, National Patient Safety Goals and compliance with policies and procedures
- Demonstrates knowledge of Chain of Command process and initiates as needed
- Participates in activities that promote good will and/or exposure in the community
- Maintains current nursing license and any additional Visa’s/Certifications.
- Completes all mandatory training/education/competencies required for job classification, along with TB testing and flu vaccine requirements.
Qualifications -Director, Nursing Emergency Services - Dearborn/Grosse Pointe
- Required Bachelor's Degree in nursing.
- Preferred Master's Degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or related field.
- 5 years of relevant experience Five years progressive nursing leadership experience. Required.
- Emergency nursing experience. Preferred.
- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) - State of MI.
- Basic Life Support (BLS). Required
- Certifications in Nursing and/or Leadership within 1 year of hire.
