Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be an Environmental Engineer typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Environmental consulting firm is seeking a full-time Environmental Scientist/Environmental Engineer for its Honolulu office.
Employee must possess the necessary knowledge, education, experience, physical abilities, and communication skills to perform the duties described below:- Assist with conducting stormwater inspections of Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) facilities, Industrial activities, and construction activities for compliance with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit requirements.
- Conduct physical inspections of stormwater infrastructure such as outfalls, open channels, and other drainage structures.
- Unpack inspection results and prepare technical reports.
- Evaluate and synthesize data to identify program improvements.
- Participate in public education and outreach events.
- Prepare a variety of written, site-specific plans and contract documents to detail project activities and/or to specify requirements for contractors.
- Identify both site-specific and programmatic deficiencies in compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
- Develop and present a variety of technical training programs for various stakeholders associated with the program, ranging from project designers to construction contractors to owners/operators of commercial/industrial facilities.
- Collect storm water samples during rain events.
- Work closely with senior staff, regulators, and client representatives on multiple projects based in the office and field.
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, or other physical science from an U.S.-accredited four-year college or university.
- 3 years of experience in stormwater compliance.
- Excellent client-services skills.
- Strong reading comprehension, technical writing skills, and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organization and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting, organize/manage multiple priorities, and conduct problem analysis/resolution.
- Possessing a stormwater certification (e.g., CISEC, CPESC, CPISM, etc.) is a plus.
- Proficient with PC and MS Office.
- Valid drivers' license, vehicle, and vehicle insurance.
- Must be able to interview in Honolulu.
