Extrusion Operator, Sr. sets up and operates an extrusion machine in accordance with established procedures, guidelines, and customer requirements. Reads and interprets blueprints and diagrams to select, position, and secure machinery. Being an Extrusion Operator, Sr. adjusts and cleans machines. Documents work performed as required. Additionally, Extrusion Operator, Sr. may have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Extrusion Operator, Sr. works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. GENERAL STATEMENTS OF DUTIES: Tends fabricating machines such as extrusion machines by performing the following duties.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned)
1. Understand and Manage production paperwork accurately and with good penmanship.
2. Must understand and know how to follow order sheets for production.
3. Must have a basic knowledge of run sheet (labor requirements, start up times, shut down times, etc.…)
4. Must have an understanding of scrap reports and how the relate to daily production runs.
5. Have the knowledge/ability to make various size boxes used in production.
6. Must have adequate product knowledge in order to label boxes and skids correctly.
7. Must have the ability to run the material grinder while following all the safety guidelines.
8. Must be able to safely setup/operate/shutdown all machinery in the Vinyl plant, along with making minor adjustments (length, speed, etc.…)
9. Must have the knowledge of the different VP materials.
10. Must know how to mix different blends of material based on production needs.
11. Must know which material requiring a drying process and how to do so.
12. Must be able to read a tape measure down to a 1/16th
13. Must be able to operate and understand calipers
14. With work instructions and following extrusion run sheets, sets up tooling and down-stream equipment, starts, and gets to tolerance simple profile extrusions.
15. On simple extruded profiles, have the ability to make adjustments (heats, RPM, etc..) to maintain quality and consistency in the extrusion process.
16. Understand and demonstrate the ability to read prints and measurements (critical dimensions) for profile extruded products.
17. Notify the shift supervisor of any unsafe or unusual changes in the area or process.
18. Observes machine operations to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction, notifies shift supervisor on any part defects and/or equipment malfunctions.
19. Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, and clean/change filters.
20. Assists to stack, mark, pack, and transport finished work pieces.
21. Keeps work area neat, clean, and organized as instructed by the shift supervisor.
22. Identify what equipment is needed for the extrusion process (tooling and downstream equipment).
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable English words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple English sentences. Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
