Facilities Engineer plans and implements the design of plants, offices, and production lines in order to maximize the use of available space and improve production efficiency. Estimates costs related to layout design, including equipment and materials, labor, etc. and monitors the construction process. Being a Facilities Engineer researches production/processing equipment or fixtures for purchase and gathers data relating to their ability to meet organizational needs. Ensures that established efficiency and safety targets are met. Additionally, Facilities Engineer typically requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be a Facilities Engineer typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed.   • Summary of Primary Purpose:

    This role plays a crucial role in ensuring the church’s facilities are well-maintained, safe, and conducive to the mission and activities. Provide hands-on maintenance, electric, troubleshooting and support. Maintain and operate various mechanical systems including HVAC (Chillers), plumbing, generators, fire detection, life safety systems, temperature control systems and building management systems.

    Scope of role:

    Oversee 1-2 staff members

    Oversee 6-8 volunteers

    Essential Roles & Responsibilities, included but not limited to:

    • Oversee the smooth operations of all building systems, including heating, cooling, lighting, plumbing, and construction projects
    • Design and oversee the construction of facility-related projects, ensuring functionality, efficiency, and safety
    • Ensure equipment is operating safely, efficiently, and reliably with minimal occurrences of unscheduled shutdowns
    • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair trade-related needs that arise with a safety focus (including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, fire safety systems and general building repairs)
    • Develop and perform preventative, predictive, and corrective scheduled maintenance and routine inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with local and federal regulations
    • Order parts and supplies for maintenance and repairs
    • Work with other departments to identify/prioritize projects and allocate resources accordingly
    • Respond to service requests timely and perform problem assessment, troubleshooting, correction, and documentation
    • Schedule and manage relationships with external contractors and vendors for specialized contracted maintenance needs or activities
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities including expenses
    • Respond promptly to emergency situations
    • Consistently evaluate and work within safety protocols ensuring compliance
    • Stay current with local building codes, regulations and zoning requirements and ensure compliance
    • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas
    • Direct and develop a team of volunteers to assist with various trade needs
    • Oversee staff and/or volunteers providing Christ-like guidance, training, and support as needed Ensure safety equipment is available and staff/volunteers are properly trained
    • Foster a positive collaborative work and cross-functional environment
    • Provides recommendations of improvements to improve energy efficiency and sustainability and implement solutions as appropriate
    • Escalate issues to facility management appropriately and timely
    • Work hours and location may be outside a set campus and/or traditional schedule as needed

    Skills/Knowledge Required:

    • Excellent mechanical proficiency
    • Ability to read and understanding blueprints
    • Strong knowledge of building systems and maintenance best practices
    • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and external partners
    • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and prioritize tasks
    • Understanding and utilization of software ticketing system
    • Familiarity with relevant safety regulations and compliance requirements
    • Strong critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Products (Excel, Word)
    • Ability to prioritize tasks for efficiency of resources (time, talents, etc.)


    Education and Experience:

    • High school diploma and minimum 5 years of experience in electrical or mechanical facilities support; or 7 years' experience in building & repair experience (Trades) with an emphasis on mechanical HVAC, preferably in a church or non-profit. Bachelor’s degree preferred
    • Prior Siemens building automation experience is a plus
    • Must possess a valid state driver’s license
