Role Purpose
The Network Infrastructure team for Switzerland is based in Zurich and Geneva. We are responsible for Operations of EXA’s telecommunication network in Switzerland. We managed 300 kms of owned ducts and a further 500 kms of leased ducts & fibre. On the facility side we run 7 Inline Amplifier signal regeneration buildings (ILAs) and have points of presence (POPs) at 2 third-party Data Centers).
We deliver fibre optic and transmission (TX) services and support the auxiliary infrastructure of ducts, fibre cables, transmission equipment as well as the ILAs for both EXA and end-customers.
We provide our customers with fast delivery timescales while guaranteeing a quality level compliant with EXA’s goals of empowering connections and driving growth.
Key responsibilities
The role is split roughly 60% Fibre Duct Network/Transmission Management 40% Facility Colocation Infrastructure Management.
You will be required to travel throughout Switzerland, sometimes for several days.
- Carry out the day-to-day Network (fibre, duct) and Facility (power and cooling) activities associated with the running of the EXA’s physical footprint in Switzerland. You also ensure the functionality of auxiliary systems (BMS, security, access control, CCTV, fire detection, fire prevention, intrusion detection, etc). Your key objective is to keep the infrastructure working 24/7.
- Build out our networks and facilities. You will perform project management for facility and transmission network projects for both internal and external customers, manage the installation of new sites, infrastructure, network routes, ducts, racks, power connections, cooling, and cable-trunking. Your target is to ensure the mission is delivered on time and within budget (helping our growth and increasing our revenue)
- Support the Network Operations Center, assisting with diagnosis and fixing of technical issues on the network and facilities - either directly or using First Line Maintenance suppliers. Your aim is to get it fixed asap.
- Run Change Control (Planned Works) for our Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules or rectification works. You will supervise directly onsite or via outsourced agents. You’ll be responsible for ensuring due-diligence for all steps in the process from impact analysis, risk assessment, roll-back scenarios, MOPs write up and post-works documentation updates. Your purpose is to minimise platform/customer down-time and avoid unforeseen outages.
- Record keeping (make sure capacity sheets, As-Builds, Asset & Inventories, plans, electrical schemas, SLDs and other documentation are up-to-date at all times. You aim to maximise efficiency in finding the right information.
- Manage EXA’s regulatory requirements for existing and new build (SiNa/OIBT, certifications, planning permissions, building permits…). Your goal is to keep us legal and safe.
- Keep the facilities and network infrastructure impeccable. Your job is to make us look good and make us proud.
Other Responsibilities
- Supplier Management - Primary facility liaison officer for EXA’s presence at key third-party Data Centers (nLighten at Zurich and Geneva, Wincasa etc) plus point of contact for other vendors, partners and suppliers (FLM/First Line Maintenance Power & Cooling, materials, local and federal agencies) providing outsourced services for EXA’s facilities and network (including administration for quotes, purchase orders, invoicing, intervention reports, service reviews, spend reporting). Your point is to save us money and ensure suppliers provide efficient high-quality services for us.
- New Supplier onboarding - Working closely alongside EXA legal and Procurement departments to select and onboard new suppliers (including RFPs, cost comparisons, contract negotiation, compliance approvals,).
- Bid management. Provide support to pre-sales for both network and facility prospects. Your job is to help win deals with the best margin.
- Budgeting and spend forecasts - Identify end-of-life replacement schedules and costs. Y
- Provide reporting to management (costs, project updates, meeting minutes, capacity reports, inventories…)

Individual Profile
We are seeking candidates from two different profiles. Ideally your qualifications and work background include proof of both. Otherwise, you’re strong in one area and are willing to integrate the other profile on-the-job.
Firstly, a Fibre Optic Engineer
- You have several years prior experience in telecommunications or related ICT industry.
- You’ve already worked in the field, installing fibres, have a proven understanding of internet networking principles - duct and fibre, DWDM, Ethernet, cross connections, patching, splicing, measuring etc.
Secondly, a Data Center Engineer or Facility Manager.
- You’ve worked directly in a DC, or directly managed a similar facility (Factory, Hospital, Warehouse etc). You can support electrical systems (PDU, UPS, Generators & Switch Boards, DC Plant/48V Rectifiers...) as well as facility cooling (CRAC, coolers, humidifiers, piping, airflow management…)
- We are particularly interested if you have a professional electrician and/or cooling certification.
- Proven track record of managing 3rd party suppliers directly and familiar with the quoting/RFP process.
- Any skills with Autocad, architectural, CRM tools and/or electrical schema drawing will be highly appreciated.
