FACILITIES SUPERVISOR supervises and coordinates the day-to-day maintenance and support of buildings, grounds, and facilities systems. Oversees staff installing, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management. Being a FACILITIES SUPERVISOR tracks work orders and ensures work follows established service and quality standards for completion. Schedules and supervises preventative maintenance, painting, or carpentry projects. Additionally, FACILITIES SUPERVISOR maintains a safe and effective working environment that complies with regulations and laws. May coordinate work to be completed by contractors and skilled trades. Typically requires an associate degree. Typically reports to a manager. The FACILITIES SUPERVISOR supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a FACILITIES SUPERVISOR typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. DESCRIPTION: Oversees the repair, maintenance and custodial functions for the buildings and facilities of a community college. Responsibilities include directing the activities of groups of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled workers who perform general maintenance, grounds and landscaping, repair and custodial tasks. Responsible for receiving, processing and assigning work orders to appropriate Facilities Management Staff and that tasks assigned are completed in a timely manner and to college standards. Conducts regular performance evaluations for supervised employees. Implements and monitors corrective action plans and employee training. This position is issued a cell phone and is an emergency on-call responder 24/7 for Facilities Management related issues, college emergencies and inclement weather conditions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A four year combination of education, training and/or experience in general maintenance and repair work providing basic knowledge of carpentry, masonry, electrical work, plumbing and painting. At least two years must have included supervision of skilled or unskilled workers performing general maintenance, repair, and/or custodial tasks.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED: Duties require knowledge of methods, practices, material and equipment of building and related mechanical trades and knowledge of hazards involved and safety precautions necessary in building maintenance and repair work. Ability to work from sketches and oral and/or written instructions, to inspect buildings, premises and equipment, to plan maintenance, repair and custodial activities, to lay out and supervise a variety of building repair and maintenance projects, to assign and supervise work of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled laborers and to understand and adhere to college policies, procedures, equipment specifications, and safety and health guidelines in the performance of job duties is essential in performing the functions of this job.
