Finance Director directs an organization's financial policies, planning, reporting and controls. Oversees all financial functions including accounting, budget, credit, risk, tax, and treasury. Being a Finance Director generally is the second most senior finance executive. Requires a master's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent. Additionally, Finance Director may require the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential. Typically reports to chief financial officer (CFO). The Finance Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Finance Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. Position Overview: The Finance Director will be responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the financial activities of the organization. This includes supervising, leading, and developing the finance staff. The Finance Director will develop and implement internal financial controls to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement strategies for financial sustainability and growth.
- Prepare and present financial reports to senior management, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures for the finance department.
- Perform financial analysis and identify areas of improvement.
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Provide guidance and support in the budgeting process.
- Manage the organizations cash flow and related investment activities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Manage relationships with external partners and vendors.
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in a Financial Director or Manager role.
- Familiarity with GAAP, accounting principles, and financial reporting.
- Experience in capital planning, capital projects, and/or non-profit organizations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, etc.).
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation is preferred.
- Proficiency in Financial Analysis software is a plus.
