An Accounting Manager role, seeking a financial professional with Banking and Regulatory exposure to lead the day-to-day financial reporting of a talented team - ensuring the completion of daily, weekly and monthly accounting functions for Merrick Bank Corporation (the “Bank”). The overall scope of this role includes managing the daily general ledger accounting processes (i.e., accounts payable & reconciliation), oversight of the general ledger accountant team, financial and regulatory reporting, analysis of financial data and other special projects as assigned. This qualified candidate must ensure all deliverables are achieved and that all is completed in compliance with established controls and procedures, along with a high degree of accuracy.
Essential Functions:
- Oversees the daily general ledger accounting, accounts payable, and informational tax reporting functions for the Bank.
- Leads the general ledger accountant team, providing training, guidance and effectively assessing overall performance.
- Assists in the month-end closing process and the preparation of balance sheet, profit and loss statement as well as participates in the preparation of the FDIC quarterly call report and various other regulatory schedules.
- Oversees the creation of statistical accounts and allocations and the preparation of the Bank’s business line and credit card portfolio financial statements.
- Handles the completion of various complex account analyses and reconciliations.
- Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to the Bank’s general ledger (Oracle Cloud) and documents and records business transactions.
- Ensures accounting procedures are complete and accurate.
- Completes a variety of daily, weekly and monthly schedules as well as special projects required by management and/or the Assistant Controller.
- Compliance with Laws & Regulations, with responsibility for:
- complying with all of the Bank’s internal control policies and procedures.
- understanding and complying with all laws and regulations to which the Bank is subject.
- communicating problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, noncompliance with laws and regulations, policy violations, or illegal acts.
Education and Experience:
- BA/BS Degree in Accounting is required. Four (4) years’ experience accepted in lieu of education requirement.
- Three (3) years’ financial services experience is required.
- Two (2) years’ supervisory experience is preferred.
Summary of Qualifications:
- Experience with, and demonstrated skill at, the following computer applications: Word processing, Spreadsheets (Excel preferred), Accounting software (preferably Oracle Cloud), E-mail, and Database software.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Responsible, flexible individual with strong mathematical and analytical skills and an extensive knowledge of all aspects of accounting, in general and specifically as applied to financial institutions.
- Communicates effectively both orally and in writing; presents ideas in a clear, concise, understandable, and organized manner.
