Fleet Manager manages the acquisition, operations, and maintenance of the organization's fleet of motor vehicles. Oversees scheduling and dispatch operations for vehicles and drivers. Being a Fleet Manager evaluates, purchases, leases, and disposes of vehicles to maintain the fleet. Develops and maintains vendor and service provider relationships for fuel, maintenance, and other essential services. Additionally, Fleet Manager administers insurance policy coverage, negotiates agreements, and participates in claim resolution. Develops and implements safety, preventive maintenance, and accident prevention programs. Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and fleet-specific regulations, licensing, registration, and reporting requirements. Manages the fleet expense reporting and budgets. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Fleet Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Fleet Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     JOB SUMMARY:

    A Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the shop and field maintenance and repairs. Position communicates scheduling and equipment availability with field operations to ensure they have they correct equipment when needed.


    RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES:

     Including but not limited to the list below.

    • Supervise foreman and mechanics including managing performance outlined in established KPI’s with an emphasis on safety, productivity, efficiency, and service delivery.
    • Review and analyze equipment reports to find areas for improvement, value-added decisions and make recommendations to management team.
    • Ensures the achievement of OSHA related targets for recordable incidents and lost time incidents.
    • Acquire rental equipment and maintain active list of all rental equipment with order dates, return dates, rental rate and ordered by.
    • Have a firm understanding of federal and state DOT regulations and laws.
    • Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures for efficient maintenance and repair operations.
    • Be a resource for task training personnel on equipment use, maintenance procedures and applications.
    • Promote the company’s safety culture to include safety briefings, annual reviews, and enforce company policies and company safety requirements are being met.
    • Recruit, interview, select, train, motivate, coach, and mentor shop and field staff.
    • Strong ability to ascertain and implement solutions when issues emerge regarding vendors, customers, and employees.
    • Handle large volume of phone calls/emails in a timely manner.
    • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by management.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the construction equipment industry.
    • Working knowledge of DOT and IFTA guidelines.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Strong attention to detail including good analytical and organizational skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to effectively manage time and resource.
    • Find potential issues ahead of time and be able to problem solve.
    • Effectively work under pressure and prioritize duties.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
    • Display a willingness to adapt, learn and grow, according to the needs of the company.
    • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Able and willing to work long hours including days, nights, weekends, and work outside of normal hours.
    • Able to sit, type, and perform computer work for long periods of time.
    • Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, feel, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds.
    • Able to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, moving mechanical parts, and job hazards.
    • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
