     SALARY RANGE:   $85, 000 - $95,000         

     

    QUALIFICATION

    •  Degree in nutrition, dietetics, business administration or a related field and three years progressively responsible supervisory experience in food service operation.
    • 4 years related experience preferred  with at least two years of school nutrition experience
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work in a  multicultural and multilingual work environment
    • Ability to efficiently work independently as well as in a close, collaborative environment.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    Under the general direction of the Director of Food Services providing support to the food service with specific responsibilities for directing activities and personnel at multiple sites to perform their functions in a safe and efficient manner; meeting the mandated nutritional needs of students; ensuring availability of quantities of items; providing written support to convey information; and complying with mandated health standards.

     

    GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Assistant Food Services Director assists the Food Services Director with the supervision, evaluation, compliance and quality checks of all the school kitchen staff in the district. The Assistant Director will assist in the supervision, evaluation and compliance of kitchen staff and will be able to help the kitchen team also submit monthly inventory reports, requests for food orders, menu planning, food ordering and meal compliance in adherence to local state and federal regulations.

    The Assistant Director performs tasks in the preparation and service of food high quality foods to students and staff in the Brookline Public Schools.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

    •  Assists with the communication and other informative materials concerning Food Services for the purpose of distributing information to personnel, parents and the community;
    •  Communicates with administrators, food services staff, parents and various outside agencies for the purpose of exchanging information and resolving concerns related to the District Food Services;
    •  Collaborate with Chef and Coordinator to develop and test recipes for the purpose of evaluating student food preferences.
    • Monitors kitchen and cafeteria areas for the purpose of ensuring menu compliance.
    •  Monitors the recipe, preparation, presentation and serving of food and beverages for the purpose of ensuring nutrition, safety and budgetary parameters are met and meals are presented in an appealing manner;
    • Participates in professional association meetings, workshops and conferences for the purpose of gathering information that can enhance department practices and personal performance.
    •  Performs functions of other nutritional services positions, as needed for the purpose of ensuring adequate staff coverage within site nutritional services;
    • Performs labor analysis and cost control studies for the purpose of ensuring the department is operating within the prescribed budget;
    • Plans, coordinates and oversees the activities of assigned school cafeterias for the purpose of providing efficient food services which are in compliance with Federal, State and local guidelines;
    • Prepares a wide variety of documentation (e.g. cumulative meal counts, budget reports, reconciliation reports, cash summary, time sheets,) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
    • Supervises assigned food service personnel (e.g. orients, trains, evaluates, etc.) for the purpose of maximizing the productivity of the workforce, providing adequate coverage and ensuring adherence to health, safety and nutritional standards of food services
    • Travels to school sites for the purpose of evaluating the performance of food services personnel and the quality of food;
    •  Writes specifications and makes recommendations for the purchase of items (e.g. food, supplies, equipment) for the purpose of ensuring foods meet nutritional specifications and supplies and equipment are appropriate for the operation and fit within budget;
    • Ensures compliance with applicable health regulations and ordinances and that all schools are prepared for any state or local board of health inspection;
    • Schedules deliveries to ensure food is available to meet planned menu items Assists FSD in all purchasing and utilization of government commodities including processed goods.
    •  Understand and implement requirements for appropriate sanitation and safety levels in respective areas are met and staff adequately trained;
    •  Keep weekly internal kitchen quality and compliance inspection records;
    • Monitor kitchen production record of what is prepared and served daily;
    • Oversee staffing district wide and redistributes staff when necessary;
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director to support the goals of the Food Service Department;
    •  Expected to spend no less than 50% of the work day in kitchens and cafes observing and supporting the team when lunch is being served;
    • Submits the claims for reimbursement and meals tax payment and reports with the state Assists with the maintaining of inventory records of food use and costs to comply with PSB and outside agency requirements.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

     Supervises the district food services staff, managers and school district driver

     

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS

    • Participate in districts meetings and initiatives 
    • Actively participate in Farm to School activities 
    • Assist the director with administrative duties and projects as needed
    • Communicates information timely, frequently, and in a professional manner to the Director, other administrators and department staff.
