Foundation Director directs the execution of the vision, strategic planning, financial management, fundraising, and grantmaking operations that support the overall objectives of a foundation. Defines the goals and tactics for fundraising campaigns and program initiatives. Being a Foundation Director represents the foundation to the public and media to communicate its mission, values, and accomplishments. Maintains positive relationships with foundation stakeholders, including the board of directors, grantees, community leaders, donors, and prospective donors. Additionally, Foundation Director oversees grantmaking operations, including developing grant guidelines, reviewing grant applications, and managing the grant evaluation process. Manages foundation programs and initiatives that align with the foundation's mission and values. Implements systems for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the foundation's grantmaking and programs. Ensures all foundation activities comply with applicable laws, reporting requirements, and regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Foundation Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Foundation Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     JOB-TYPE/HOURS: On-site. A limited hybrid arrangement may be possible.
    JOB SUMMARY:
    The Associate Director for Leadership Giving has responsibility for identifying, cultivating and soliciting leadership donors who will increase their commitment to the vision and mission of the University. The person in this role will craft both broad audience solicitations and personal solicitations to help move annual giving donors along the donor continuum, with emphasis on Parents of current and former UVM students. Housed with the development team, this role works closely with the Annual Giving team and helps contribute to building an effective pipeline that maximizes philanthropic support.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    40% Identify, cultivate, and solicit leadership giving donors ($2,500 ). This includes personal solicitations and executing fundraising strategies for broad and targeted solicitations, with a focus on retention and growth of leadership annual giving donors.
    40% Support and expand a program to move UVM parent, alumni, and friend donors into the major and principal gift pipeline through discovery visits, unique and personalized mail and digital strategies, and solicitation of gifts and pledges.
    15% Collaborate with Alumni Relations, Annual Giving, and key Foundation units on strategy and implementation of fundraising and engagement projects to maximize support from key donors. This includes texting, direct mail, digital fundraising, crowdfunding, and stewardship activities.
    5% Other duties as assigned

    Specific standards of performance will be captured as metrics in an annual business plan.

    DESIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
    • Fundraising experience, preferably within higher education, with strong skills in both one-to-one cultivation and solicitation and fundraising marketing.
    • Exceptional people skills with the ability to be insightful, responsive, creative, and engaging with colleagues and donors.
    • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, combined with the ability to meaningfully apply those principles to strategy development and implementation.
    • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated in initiating contacts with donors and potential donors; strong ability to maintain relationships in person and long distance.
    • Team-oriented style and a deep desire to collaborate with others.
    • Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including a high level of attention to detail and active listening skills.
    • Ability to travel on a frequent basis and willing to work evenings and weekends when needed.
    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
    Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of previous experience with professional fundraising, or similar personal solicitation and marketing, preferably within an academic or non-profit environment.
