SUPERVISOR Superintendent of Schools
The Assistant Superintendent of Schools acts under the supervision and leadership of the Superintendent and the general direction of the School Board, in compliance with State, Federal and Educational laws, regulations, statutes and policies. This individual must independently operate with self-direction and judgment to provide hands on leadership for curriculum development and implementation, research and implement proven educational strategies that enhance student achievement and oversee and implement a district-wide comprehensive assessment system that provides direction to instruction and informs the public regarding student achievement. Further, this position is responsible for the development of a multi-faceted staff professional development program that provides a myriad of opportunities for staff professional growth.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Advise the Superintendent on the development of instructional policies and system wide instructional goals and objectives that would achieve academic excellence. Direct, organize and coordinate instructional planning and educational standards in collaboration with school leadership teams. Develop and align a recursive curriculum framework that provides meaningful and challenging learning for all students, increase access to technology and provide the foundation for future learning.
- Evaluate and identify student educational needs for growth in the School District through the review and assessment of instructional materials and current instructional methods; implement state, federal and local instructional requirements, strategize, develop and recommend methods of improvements. Coordinate subsequent budget development to meet short and long term goal planning with the Superintendent and the Business Administrator.
- Review and seek out RFP’s for grants from State, Federal and private sources, prepare proposals, administrate grants within state and federal guidelines by preparing budget documentation, processing purchase requests, reviewing reports and assurances. Evaluate State and Federal grants relative to the improvement of curriculum and instruction.
- Act as the liaison between the NH Department of Education and the community for information on the NH Assessment Program and all other curriculum, instruction and assessment programs.
- Lead the creation, design and implementation of staff professional development initiatives to support the instructional program in collaboration with the Professional Development Committee. Provide guidance utilizing current practices and strategies in educational programs.
- Monitor three-year professional development growth plans and staff evaluations for all administrative, professional staff and paraprofessional staff.
- Develop and implement the New Teacher Induction program for newly hired Teaching and Administrative staff.
- Supervise the District Literacy Program, Federal Title programs and the English Language Learners program. Responsible for the supervision and performance evaluation of the ELL Department Head.
- Direct the collection, analysis and the distribution of assessment data. Supervise the collaborative interaction with professional teaching and administrative staff in examining overall school findings, interpreting state frameworks, grade level expectations and grade span expectations.
- Oversee District administration of and compliance with regulations for home schooled students of the District.
- Attend and participate in local, state and national meetings or professional organizations concerned with education. Maintain active membership in state and national organizations and up to date on new developments in curriculum and instruction.
- In collaboration with Technology Services, provide clear vision for the successful integration of technology into curriculum, instruction and assessment.
- Oversee the successful implementation of School Board educational goals and objectives.
- Attend and participate in all meetings of the school board. Prepare and submit to the board necessary and relevant educational information and reports required to ensure informed decision making. Inform and advise the board about programs, practices and problems and the need for new or revised policies.
- Acts as Superintendent in his/her absence.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Hold valid NH Superintendent Certification or enrollment in an approved leadership program for Superintendent Certification and a Master’s Degree, preferably in Curriculum, or with heavy content course work in Curriculum.
- A minimum of five to ten years’ experience in the field of Education with a minimum of five years central office administration, district level, or building level experience.
- Leadership skills in the areas of curriculum development, program evaluation, staff development, school improvement.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively present information to groups of individuals, maintain effective working relationships within the District, and with other relevant local agencies.
- Ability to present written documents that are clear, concise and grammatically correct.
- Ability to operate personal computers utilizing spreadsheet, word processing and database software.
- Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of modern public school education and the ability to apply them to the needs of the school.
- Successful completion of criminal history background check and pre-employment physical.

- Relate the District’s commitment to excellence to parents and the community at large.
- Act with integrity, and in an ethical manner in all aspects of carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
In a normal work-day, the employee may be required to combine standing, walking and sitting; continuously sit at desk, keyboard, etc. for several hours, lift/carry up to 15 pounds infrequently, bend frequently; squat, kneel, climb/balance, reach above shoulder level and lift from high/low positions occasionally.
