POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position: Groundskeeper

Job Type: Full Time

Reports To: Golf Course Superintendent

Primary Objective: Perform skilled grounds and maintenance work for golf course, landscape, and surrounding clubhouse areas, inclusive of preventative maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform general groundskeeping and landscaping maintenance to ensure green and healthy landscape, using relative equipment, tools and machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
• Maintain landscape planting by clearing and trimming hedges, shrubbery, tree branches, fronds and limbs; watering vegetation; weeding; and transplanting.
• Plant bushes, shrubs and other native plants; prepare soil plant bases and beds; and establish plantings by seed or transplants.
• Responsible for sodding greens, tees, and fairways.
• Lawn maintenance using walk-behind mowers, weed whacker, vibratory tamper or riding mowers. Operate blowers (backpack and riding), turf vac, skip-loader, fairway and rough aerifier and boom sprayer, etc.
• Hand rake and edge all grounds, inclusive of cart paths, around fairway yardage markers, sand traps, etc.
• Repair ball marks on the green.
• Assist in aerating and top-dressing greens, tees and fairway divots with proper sand/mixture.
• Remove cuttings, grass piles, debris and trash from golf course greens and landscaping areas.
• Cut cups; also maintain and move ropes, stakes, flags, signs, tee markers, directional barricades, etc.
• Assist with fertilizer applications on tees, fairways, rough areas, etc.
• Operate carts and utility vehicles for hauling debris, material, and tools.
• May assist in irrigation and drainage maintenance and repairs.
• May assist in any storm damage clean-up and repairs.
• Inspect, maintain and clean equipment daily, to include checking of fluid levels before operating any machine; return all equipment to designated location at the maintenance facility at the end of shift.
• Clean restrooms and break room as assigned.
• Load and unload materials.
• Maintain a high level of personal service extended to members and guests.
• Report any hazardous situations, maintenance issues, and other areas of concern immediately to the supervisor.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum one year experience in landscaping or groundskeeping.
• Demonstrated ability and knowledge in the use of hand and power tools, equipment and machinery used in landscaping and grounds maintenance.
• Ability to drive turf vehicles and mowers.
• Must be able to understand, speak, read and write in English.
• Strong listening skills and ability to follow directions.
• Ability to work as a team.
• Present a positive and professional image.
• Self-motivated and customer service oriented.
• Experience working in diverse settings.
• Possession of valid driver's license.

• Walk and/or stand for prolonged periods of time; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, twist, reach, and grasp; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; push/pull/move objects; and lift overhead.
• Exposure to dust, dirt, and grime, with soiling of hands and clothing.
• Work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Must be able to withstand working in humid and outdoor temperatures.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in grading, seeding, sodding, fertilizing, mulching, and general landscaping.
