Head Nurse - Emergency Room directs nursing service activities in the emergency room. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and emergency room staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of emergency room patient clinical records, and writes reports on emergency room staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - Emergency Room maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - Emergency Room typically requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Emergency Room manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - Emergency Room typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required. Schedule/Shift:
Full-time night shift (7:00 pm - 7:30 am) / Every third weekend and rotating holidays
Serving Wilmington community and Northern New Castle County, the Emergency Department at Saint Francis Hospital is a Level III Trauma, 27-bed unit. We care for various types of patients and are the first and only Geriatric certified Emergency Department in Delaware. Our ER management team values and promotes a work life balance.
The staff nurse is a registered professional who plans and renders nursing care within an assigned nursing unit. He/she gives direct patient care and maintains clinical records reflecting the patient’s condition, medication, treatment, examination, and progress according to the Delaware Nursing Practice Act and St. Francis Hospital’s policies and procedures.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Adheres to hospital nursing practice standards, demonstrates appropriate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
Assist the emergent patient and documents accordingly on Emergency Room nursing tool.
Identifies patient needs based on objective data and follows through with appropriate documentation.
Implements appropriate Nursing actions to each patient that needs to be identified.
Makes decisions that reflect both knowledge of facts and sound judgment.
Discusses with and includes patient an/or family significant other about planned patient care and expected outcomes and documents same.
Identifies and appropriately utilizes multidisciplinary approach to facilitate delivery of patient care.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates Degree in Nursing required; BSN highly preferred
Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Delaware
Previous ER and/or Acute Care experience highly preferred
BLS and ACLS certification required; must obtain PALS within 6 months of employment
