Head Nurse - Obstetrics directs nursing service activities for assigned patients in the delivery room and birthing units. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and obstetrics staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of obstetrics patient clinical records, and writes reports on obstetrics room staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - Obstetrics maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - Obstetrics requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Obstetrics manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. The Registered Nurse-Obstetrics: Pediatrics Rotation assigned to the Mother/Baby unit fulfills the essential functions of the RN-Pediatric. Responsible to the Manager for overall nursing practice. Provides professional nursing care based on current nursing knowledge through use of the ANA Maternal Child Health Nursing Practice Standards. This includes the responsibility for assessment of the patients' needs, development of the plan of care to meet those needs, implementation of nursing interventions, and evaluations of patient care outcomes.
Education:
1) Completion of an accredited registered nurse program required; BSN preferred.
Experience:
1) Previous RN experience preferred. 2) Charge qualified preferred.3) Experience in antepartal, neonatal, obstetrical and/or pediatric nursing preferred.

1) Effectively functions as a team member and as a liaison between patient and staff.
2) Supports and encourages harmonious communication skills.

License/Certification/Registration:
1) Current Pennsylvania RN licensure.2) Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.3) Within one year of the hire/transfer date, completes the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and renews NRP every two years. 4) Within one year of the hire/transfer date, meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and renews PALS every two years.
