Head Teller ensures the daily operational activities of the teller line are executed with accuracy and fulfill required service standards. Processes and records routine transactions, handles complex or unusual customer transactions, and answers more complex customer inquiries. Being a Head Teller depending on policy, may authorize certain transactions. Assists with teller onboarding, training, and guidance. Additionally, Head Teller is responsible for vault oversight and the daily auditing, reporting, and balancing processes. Oversees each teller's daily reconciliation and assists if needed. Ensures that tellers comply with all operating, regulatory, and security policies and procedures. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Head Teller supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Head Teller typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Under the direction of the Branch Manager, has the general responsibility, in addition to performing as a teller, to oversee all tellers within the office and to ensure the smooth and orderly operation of the teller line and related functions. Supports the brand promise.
Essential Functions

- Schedules all tellers in order to maintain proper staffing.
- Ensures that each teller submits work to proof in the branch capture process in a neat and orderly manner.
- Ensures each teller balances every day. Provides assistance to locate any differences. Ensures that all differences are properly initialed and, if required, reported to the Manager immediately.
- Monitors and controls all responsibilities generally performed by tellers, delegating those duties in a manner which will maximize the efficiency of the branch.
- Ensures that the appearance of the teller area is neat, organized and in accordance with Bank policy.
- Customer Service:
- Consistently demonstrates a helpful, friendly attitude.
- Maintains proper amounts of currency and coin in drawer.
- Understands role in case of robbery, whether victim or bystander, and knows proper post-robbery procedures.
- Maintains neat and orderly work area and ensures that all negotiable instruments and confidential records are properly secured.
- Adheres to all security procedures.
- Sells and/or refers Bank products and services to customers and prospects.
- The duties of this position must be performed from the physical branch or bank location in order to best service the needs of the customers or support the Bank facilities.
- Must have the ability to give and accept coaching and the desire to oversee and assist others.
- Ability to handle and count money accurately.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- One year of teller experience preferred.
- Experience in handling United States currency preferred.
- Basic Microsoft Office and Internet Skills.
- Strong customer service and sales skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly with the public.
- Good math skills and must be able to perform accurate work.
- Understand security issues involving money and checks preferred.
- Good comfort level with handling United States currency.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Salary Grade = 3
Work Environment
This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Office environment with job duties conducted via telephone, face to face meetings, and on the computer.
Physical Demands
This position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and opening cabinets. This position requires bending, stooping or standing as necessary.
Travel
Travel may be required for this position.
