Health Educator is responsible for developing and designing health education programs meant to increase community awareness and knowledge. Conducts needs assessments and keeps up-to-date on changes in health care technology to keep program material current. Being a Health Educator develops, coordinates, and disseminates educational resources and materials. May provide health education outreach and consultation. Additionally, Health Educator requires a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Health Educator work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. The Public Health Educator is a permanent, full-time position with the Alabama Department of Public Health. Positions are located throughout the state. Public Health Educators coordinate all public health education programs in a district or work in the central office and participate in the development and coordination of statewide public health education programs in a specific program area such as tobacco, cancer, injury, arthritis, bioterrorism, hazardous waste prevention, worksite wellness, or health promotion.
REQUIREMENT(S)
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited* college or university in Health Education, Public Health, Health Promotion, Community Health, Physical Education, Kinesiology, or health education-related field, including five health education/promotion college courses.
