Health Educator is responsible for developing and designing health education programs meant to increase community awareness and knowledge. Conducts needs assessments and keeps up-to-date on changes in health care technology to keep program material current. Being a Health Educator develops, coordinates, and disseminates educational resources and materials. May provide health education outreach and consultation. Additionally, Health Educator requires a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Health Educator work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. The Health Educator provides education to women, families and other professionals in the areas of childbirth, breastfeeding, women’s health and the early postpartum period, parenting, newborn care, wellness and childhood safety/injury prevention or special needs transportation. The educator maintains current knowledge base in these and related areas, and employs a variety of learning methodologies geared toward the pediatric, adolescent and adult client. The educator is a communication link with the client and the health care system. The educator participates actively in the development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the program.
Education:
Graduate of an accredited secondary school; 2 years of advanced education in health care, education, or related field required. College degree in related field preferred. Equivalent work and/or educational experience considered.
Skills:
Demonstrated ability of positive interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, physicians and the community.
