Heavy Assembler assembles fabricated parts to large or heavy subassemblies and completes units. Fits, tests, and calibrates parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product specifications. Being a Heavy Assembler conducts welding, riveting, and trimming of parts to fit or align components. Uses hand and power tools, jigs, fixtures, and other assembly equipment. Additionally, Heavy Assembler typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Heavy Assembler works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Description
SUMMARY- Performs repetitive bench or line assembly operations to mass-produce products commonly weighing 50 to 100 pounds by performing the following duties. This position may require overtime to include weekends.
- Places parts in specified relationship to each other according to work instructions and/or prints that are provided. Updates work instructions as procedures change.
- Bolts, clips, screws, cements, or otherwise fastens parts together and performs quality inspection of completed parts. Packs completed parts.
- Works at different workstations as production needs require and maintains organization of work areas.
- Reworks parts for assembly as required.
- Conducts month-end inventory of completed and in-process parts.
- Receives and gives backup support from other assembly or production personnel.
- May work in other areas of either plant based on production requirements.
- May be required to work off shifts as needed.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.\
