Histology Technologist jobs in Florida
Histology Technologist performs complex histological procedures used to prepare specimens of tissue for examination and analysis by a Pathologist. Performs grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, and both routine and multiple staining of samples. Being a Histology Technologist performs quality control on completed slides. Identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Additionally, Histology Technologist records observations from tests. Documents maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab. Complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. Requires ASCP Histotechnologist certification (HTL). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Histology Technologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Education- High school Graduate or Equivalent
- Technical Program completed in Histology
- State of Florida Technician/Technologist License in Histology.
- Histology National Certification preferred, ASCP.
- Cognizant ability to correlate physician requests with specimen preparation and processing.
- Precise hand to eye coordination and finger dexterity is necessary to perform procedures, obtain specimens and use electronic/computerized equipment.
This position will work in collaboration with department leadership to support the needs of the department.- Accessions specimens, embeds tissue, cuts blocks and makes slides.
- Stains slides using routine special and immunohistochemical staining methods.
- Maintains equipment.
- Follows and documents quality control procedures.
- Assists in orientation of new employees.
- Remains current in technical knowledge and instrumentation.
- Assists pathologists in various tasks.
- Performs frozen sections.
- May be required to cross train in other duties in the laboratory.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
