HVAC Supervisor supervises and coordinates the operations, maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Oversees the installation of new units and replacement parts and ensures work is completed according to company, product, or engineering specifications and established safety guidelines. Being an HVAC Supervisor conducts quality testing and inspections. May authorize equipment, supplies, parts, or repairs purchases. Additionally, HVAC Supervisor may require a bachelor's degree. Requires an HVAC Mechanical State License and EPA Section 608 Certification (CFC). Typically reports to a manager. The HVAC Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be an HVAC Supervisor typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     • Hours of Work Monday – Friday, 700am to 400pm. After-hours on-call duties on a rotational basis.

    Job Summary Core responsibilities of this position include

    The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) technician is responsible for providing a productive working and learning environment for students, faculty and staff by offering excellent customer service, professional appearance, timely work and expert communication skills. The technician will perform HVAC troubleshooting, maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance on College equipment and facilities. The technician will at times work with and assist other mechanical technicians in plumbing and limited electrical work. The individual will be on rotational service calls responding to emergency work. This job supports overall departmental projects including coordination and quality assurance of contracted services. Requires occasional work after normal business hours.

    Essential Functions – this position is Non-Exempt, is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative; other duties may be assigned).

    Mechanical Install/Repair/Maintenance Functions

    • Respond to request for service calls/work orders and make repairs as necessary.
    • Inspect and test commercial HVAC/R /parts/equipment/fixtures to verify operational status, and to detect need for repair/replacement.
    • Repair equipment such as assorted fans, pumps, piping systems, unit heaters, fan coil units, variable air volume boxes (VAV), infrared (IR) heaters, variable frequency drives (VFD) systems, air handling units (AHU), roof top units, furnaces, air conditioners, mini-splits, and heat pumps.
    • Communicate with College end users regarding structure/equipment malfunctions to isolate problems or to verify that repairs corrected malfunctions.
    • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance for the College’s mechanical system needs.
    • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly inspections for assigned areas of responsibility.
    • Install, operate, maintain, and repair indoor/outdoor fixtures, equipment, and systems.
    • Study blueprints, design specifications, or manufacturers' recommendations to verify the configuration and to ensure the proper installation of components.
    • Assemble, position, and mount components and parts following blueprints or manufacturer's
    • Order and maintain inventory/schedule for parts, services, equipment and tools for HVAC/R and BAS systems
    • Safely drive vehicles, and operate large complex maintenance equipment
    • Maintain kitchen equipment (i.e., stack steamer, grills, ovens, ice makers,)
    • Respond to emergency duties after hours when required
    • Conducts maintenance and repair of commercial heating and air conditioning equipment, kitchen equipment and or including building automation system, and other college equipment as needed.
    • Contact, coordinate, supervise, and quality control of work done by service vendors, warranty repairs, and contracted installation.
    • Mechanical and site maintenance support such as support contractor installations, new construction and overall project support.
    • Prep jobsites including masking, relocating equipment, and protecting surfaces from work performed (i.e. dust, demolition, and installation).
    • Provides on the job training related to this technical expertise.


    Department Support Functions

    • Perform related duties as delegated by supervision.
    • Provide excellent customer service by displaying a professional image to include neat appearance, proper hygiene and appropriate attire.
    • Participate in all duties as a professional team member, provide security and confidentiality of personnel information and equipment.
    • Provide excellent customer service by utilizing professional and effective language, communication and timely follow-through.
    • Responds to emergency duties after hours when required.
    • Comply with all applicable Department and College standards, policies, or procedures, such as safety procedures or the maintenance of a clean work area.
    • Attend all mandatory department, work group, and college trainings/meetings.
    • Follows OSHA and college safety practices, regulations, and procedures.
    • Perform snow removal and supervision/coordination of part-time employees as required.
    • Provide support and assistance to other department functional areas as needed.


    Administrative Functions

    • Utilize electronic devices (computers or tablets) for completion and documentation of work orders and preventative maintenance.
    • Organize and maintain warehouse materials, equipment, inventories, and documentation.
    • Manage, reconcile, and complete necessary documentation for budgets, monthly purchase orders, and purchase card receipts.
    • Coordinate and communicate with other college departments regarding necessary forms, documentation, or completion of processes as related to this position.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge of mechanical repair with a working knowledge of maintenance of commercial buildings and equipment.
    • Ability to properly and safely operate equipment/power tools used in installation and maintenance tasks.
    • Trade skills in building construction practices and the ability to read and comprehend commercial building and equipment blueprints is required.
    • Trade skills in mechanical equipment installations, troubleshooting, and repair.
    • Must be able to drive vehicles, and operate large complex maintenance equipment.
    • Must have a valid Wyoming driver's license and be able to meet the colleges.
    • Ability to interpret building blueprints, manufacture installation/repair instructions, and safety data sheets.
    • Knowledge of OSHA requirements and building code regulations; ability to learn, interpret and apply current pertinent federal, state and local laws and regulations.
    • Working knowledge and ability with personal computing applications – specifically Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Adobe products (e.g., Reader, Professional), as well as database management systems.
    • Ability to read and interpret instructions in oral, written, or diagrammatical form (e.g., a flow chart of a process).
    • Ability to read, interpret and consider possible applications of equipment and building schematics, blueprints, and manufacturer specifications.
    • Excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate clearly with a variety of people, in one-to-one and small group settings – either face-to-face, by telephone, or by other electronic means – ability to communicate in an informative manner, effectively listen, and be able to handle escalating situations with concern and confidence.
    • Ability to support time-based requests; able to function effectively in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment with deadlines, frequent interruptions, and some interpersonal pressure.
    • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with people; proven capabilities in establishing appropriate professional rapport, with courtesy and tact, to accurately determine other’s needs, collect necessary information, and follow-through when requested.
    • Knowledge of basic office equipment including (but not limited to) personal computer and associated peripherals, fax machine, multi-line telephone, voice recorders, and other electronic devices.


    Physical/Mental Demands

    • Frequently required to squat, bend, twist, kneel, sit, stand, climb, and extend arms over head
    • Work in environments and conditions above ceilings, on roofs, outside, inside, mechanical rooms, tunnels, labs, arena, hallways, meeting rooms and various campus facilities
    • Exposure to and use of safety equipment for outdoor weather extremes for extended periods
    • Exposure to and use of safety equipment for hazardous materials, biohazards, chemicals, electrical equipment, and fuels/petroleum products
    • May be required to climb ladders, maneuver in confined spaces, and work with tools/equipment in unconventional positions
    • Instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use
    • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

    Education and Experience Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related field of study, or five (5) years’ experience in industrial Commercial maintenance (i.e. boiler and chiller maintenance, temperature controls or combined HVAC/Refrigeration service and repair).
    • Must have the ability to learn and operate Building Automation System (BAS) along with installing and repairing various electrical and electronic components for the system.
    • Two years of experience to include general mechanical/installation, repair, and commercial maintenance
    • EPA certified universal refrigerant handling license.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to meet the college insurance carrier requirements.


    Preferred Qualifications

    • WY licensed Journeyman HVAC
    • OSHA 10 certification or capability to attain certification
    • Associates Degree in a related technical field
