    Duties and Responsibilities
    1. *Serve as a Designated School Official for the F-1 student visa program and an Alternate Responsible Officer for the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program.
    2. *Serve as a resource for department requests for visa document services.
    3. *Create SEVIS records and visa documents utilizing University and SEVIS databases.
    4. *Review visa documents for completeness and accuracy and ensure compliance with SEVIS regulations and University policy.
    5. *Coordinate preparation of SEVIS student records for initial activation and SEVIS-status reporting at the beginning of each semester within SEVIS reporting deadlines.
    6. *Monitor changes to student records via regular data audits to identify discrepancies, and to ensure data is updated and consistent across multiple databases.
    7. *Identify students with loss of SEVIS status, and report to ISS advisers for follow-up.
    8. *Monitor J-1 Exchange Visitor students for compliance with health insurance requirements and on-campus employment authorization.
    9. *Certify student visa status for travel and employment purposes.
    10. *Keep abreast of current University policies and procedures and U.S. immigration laws, regulations, and procedures affecting SEVIS and the Exchange Visitor Program.
    11. *Assist in the organization of and preparation for orientation, visa clearance, programs and events.
    12. *Ensure that all regulatory and procedural communication materials on the ISS website remain consistent and up-to-date.
    13. Assist ISS advising staff with special projects.
    14. Other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications 
    1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business Administration, Education, Social Sciences, Humanities or related field and 1 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for processing immigration documents, advising on immigration issues, and /or related functions; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
    2. Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in immigration services demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
    3. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with immigration services.
    4. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the immigration services.
    5. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
    6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
    7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
    8. U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residence (required by federal regulations for certification as a Designated School Official or Alternate Responsible Officer for the Exchange Visitor Program).
    9. Clearance of a Criminal History Background Check to comply with Code of Federal Regulations required for employees functioning as an Alternate Responsible Officer for the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program is a condition of employment and continued employment. 
    10. Attention to detail and ability to prioritize, organize and handle a variety of tasks.
    11. Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint and experience using database programs.
    Desirable Qualifications
    1. Experience serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) and/or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) in an academic or university environment.
    2. Experience with Banner, Ellucian, STAR, and/or Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) databases.
    3. Experience with Google docs, multimedia platforms, website management, and publishing software.
    4. Knowledge of relevant University of Hawaii at Manoa policies and procedures.
