Additionally, Industrial Hygienist evaluates facilities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promotes maintenance of a sanitary working environment. Conducts training in environmental compliance and the handling of hazardous materials. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor/manager. The Industrial Hygienist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.     • Experience planning and carrying industrial hygiene programs.
    • Experience developing a variety of control measures to include: ventilation, shielding, material substitution, changes in work procedures, isolation, education, and personal protective devices.
    • Experience investigating arising health concerns and determining probable cause within the workplace.
    • Experience recommending and evaluating new work processes to minimize health hazards.
    • Experience assessing work practices to identify the population at risk.
    • Experience maintaining, calibrating, and selecting appropriate equipment to oversee sampling. Experience preparing documentation for personnel medical records. GS-11 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
    • Experience planning and carrying industrial hygiene programs.
    • Experience developing a variety of control measures to include: ventilation, shielding, material substitution, changes in work procedures, isolation, education, and personal protective devices.
    • Experience investigating arising health concerns and determining probable cause within the workplace.
    • Experience recommending and evaluating new work processes to minimize health hazards.     • A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
    • A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
    • Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH). Substitution of Education GS-12 Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree GS-11 Master's or equivalent graduate degree. A transcript must be submitted with your application if qualifying using education.
