  • Primary Role Objective

    The Dental Infection Control Coordinator main job function is to support the dental teams, FHC Infection Control Manager and the Clinic Supervisor in the delivery of dental care to the patients in a training and operational capacity for Family Health Centers. The Dental Sterilization Infection Control Coordinator may be required to work as a Dental Assistant up to 50 % of their scheduled week or more and will be required to travel regularly to provide training and review of all clinics.

    Main Duties & Responsibilities

    • Assists the Clinic Supervisor and Director of Dental Operations
    • Support Supervisor in training and monitoring
    • EDR/EHR Super User
    • Responsible for Assisting with the dental infection control training program
    • Plan, develop, implement, direct and evaluate the education program in the facility based on identified Patient needs, dental assistant needs, other staff needs, federal, state and local regulations.
    • Assists with curriculum, training and progress
    • Assist with monitoring and evaluating performance and competencies
    • Assist Dental Providers with direct patient care:
    • Seat/triage patients quickly and on time
    • Anticipate the provider and patient’s needs during procedures.
    • Properly pass instruments using correct four handed technique
    • Close teamwork with all dental team members
    • Communicate and Record Patient Health Information:
    • Ensure each patient’s health history is up to date at each visit.
    • Provide a thorough report to the provider regarding clinically relevant items within the patient’s medical, dental, and social history.
    • Assist dental provider with age appropriate patient education and oral hygiene instruction
    • Complete all relevant dental charting
    • Maintenance of a Clean and Fully Sterilization areas
    • Keep operatories fully stocked at all times
    • Promptly sterilize dirty instruments throughout the day
    • Must adhere to the Joint Commission, OSHA, CDC strict guidelines for Sterilization process and Maintenance on dental equipment
    • Interpret and implement established facility policies, procedures and regulations for staff in coordination with FHC IF Manager
    • Adherence to Joint Commission stringent infection controls guidelines when turning over operatories
    • Responsible for all maintenance and safety logs that pertain to the clinic you are assigned
    • Responsible for Training new dental assistant within your assigned clinic, monitor their progress and report to the Dental Operations Director
    • Must present in a professional manner at all times and uphold all FHC policies and procedures.
    • Strive to maintain good working relationships with staff and providers
    • Must have a collegial team work with staff and other Lead Dental Assistants

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Requires basic organizational skills, typically to organize own work
    • Job duties require the ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Ability to manage own duties and responsibilities on a fixed schedule without the need for direction or assistance in prioritization is required
    • Ability to utilize Electronic Dental Record (EDR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) programs
    • Job duties require employee to provide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers
    • Conversant in advanced dental terminology used in communicating with patients.
    • If bilingual, perform translation duties for dental provider as needed.

    The position requires basic reading, writing, and math skills acquired during completion of a high school degree or GED
