    The School of Life Sciences (SoLS), College of Natural Sciences, University of Hawai‘i at Manoa (Honolulu, Hawaii) invites applicants for the position of Instructor in the Marine Biology undergraduate program. With over 600 students, Marine Biology is one of the largest majors at UHM.
     
    This is a non-tenure track, full-time, 9-month, faculty appointment, to begin August 1, 2024, subject to position clearance and availability of funds. Review of applications will begin on October 30, 2023, and will continue until the position is filled.

    Duties: 

    • Teaching 12 credits (or equivalent) per semester, including Advanced Topics in Marine Biology (BIOL 404) and other undergraduate classes in the Marine Biology program, such as Algal Diversity and Evolution (BOT 480), Biology of the Invertebrates (BIOL 485 485L), Marine Ecology and Evolution  (BIOL 301 301L), and Marine Microbiology (MICR 401 401L).
    • Participate in SoLS committees and events as appropriate.
    • Perform related tasks as assigned 
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • A Master’s degree in Marine Biology, or related discipline, from a college or university of recognized standing, with the major work in the field in which the instructional assignment is made
    • Evidence of ability to teach effectively and to direct group discussions
    • Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others
    • Research experience as evidenced by publication in peer-reviewed journals.
     
    Desirable qualifications include:
    • Ph.D. in Marine Biology, or related discipline, (or closely related discipline), 
    • A proven track record of effective course instruction in lower and upper-division marine biology courses at the university level,
    • Experience teaching high enrollment (>60) lecture courses with multiple lab sections, 
    • Experience teaching diverse student populations, and
