Instructor - Computer Science teaches courses in the discipline area of computer and information sciences. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Computer Science provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Computer Science typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.     REPORTS TO: Principal
    LOCATION: Southside High School

    CONTRACT DAYS: Days and benefits will be specified in the employee contract. Contract will be prorated based on the actual start date.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Must meet AR licensure requirements or have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and get your Career Tech Endorsement.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
    • Knowledgeable and trained in various programming languages including Python and Java. Knowledge of other languages (i.e., JavaScript, ReactNative, C) is highly desirable.
    • Willingness to attend AP Summer Institutes for training to teach AP level classes, as required.
    • Assists with developing and implementing plans for all areas of computer science including, but not limited to programming, mobile app development, IT/networking, and cybersecurity.
    • Willing to prepare for and administer exams for student certification requirements.
    • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
    • Assists in ordering supplies and materials necessary for computer science in accordance with established district procedures and budget allocations.
    • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
    • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
    • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
    • Coordinates with Peak Innovation Center to align curriculum and create experiences appropriate to the curriculum and student interests.
    • Cooperates with the school administration in providing camps and training outside of school calendar days.
    • Oversees scheduling and other arrangements for work-based learning experiences in cooperation with the building principal.
    • Carry out the performance responsibilities required of all classroom teachers.
    • Participates in grade-level collaboration and planning, as part of PLCs, as well as school committees.
    • Supervises students on recess, bus, during before and after school duty, on field trips, extracurricular events, and in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
    • Maintains prompt and regular attendance.
    • Demonstrates the ability to maintain positive professional working relationships with others.
    • Maintains emotional control under stress.
    • Abide by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
    • Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
    • May be required to physically move students or equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.
    • Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending, and squatting.
