Instructor - Medicine teaches courses in the discipline area of medicine. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Medicine provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Medicine typically reports to a department head. May require a license to practice medicine. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Food AND Medicine (FAM) is a progressive grassroots member-based organization located in Brewer, Maine. We use a hybrid of direct service and community organizing to build power among working class and low-income people, and see our work as Solidarity, not charity. Our programs focus on issues causing and resulting from poverty, including food access, worker rights, affordable public transportation, civic engagement and political education. Founded in 2002, our work and name is based on the belief that no one should have to choose between food, medicine and other basic necessities. We partner closely with local labor unions, including the Eastern Maine Labor Council, as well as many partner organizations and allied groups.
FAM has enjoyed tremendous growth in the past few years, becoming a force for economic and social justice in Eastern Maine. Owing to this success, FAM is looking to add an experienced Organizing Director to our team to manage and further develop our staff.
Job Overview:
The Organizing Director will manage, support and develop our current staff of 4 organizers to implement and further grow FAM’s coordinated organizing efforts, which prioritize identifying and developing leaders and building power among FAM’s constituencies. The Organizing Director will also support our Peer Workforce Navigator program, by establishing training support with partners and helping to establish a more systematic approach to connecting people to public benefits and ultimately good jobs.
The Organizing Director will work closely with the Deputy Director and will report to the Executive Director. The position is located in Brewer, Maine, with opportunity for some remote work. The person in this position will need to be available to work some nights and weekends.

Compensation: This will be a full time position with competitive salary for the region, ranging from $55,000-60,000 depending on experience; 100% employer paid health, dental and vision insurance paid for the individual; retirement plan with match; generous holidays and paid time off.
