Position Summary
Under the direction of the lab staff and Dr. Carlier, the Laboratory Helper will assist with various day-to-day activities and gain hands on experience.
Duties & Responsibilities - Day-to-day activities of the student will be directed by Dr. Kevin Kunz and/or Dr. Sruthi Mohan
- Overall research guidance will be provided by the lab director, Prof. Carlier
- The student will carry out organic reactions intended to generate desired products, and will purify them using standard laboratory techniques.
- The student will analyze his/her samples for purity and proof of identity using NMR spectroscopy and LC-MS.
- The student will prepare small quantities of pure reaction products for testing for antimalarial activity by Prof. Carlier’s collaborator
- The student will present weekly research reports (1 page) to Dr. Carlier, which will be reviewed during a 30 minute in-person meeting. The student will also present his work to the Carlier group in Lab Meeting at least one time during the Summer.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
