    Performance

    The  Special Education Paraprofessional P shall be evaluated annually based on goals and objectives composed and agreed to by the Chief Academic Administrator, Superintendent, and the Southgate Academy Governing Board.

     

    Qualification Requirements

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and ability required.     • Education and Experience: Pass the Paraprofessional Assessment or have an associate degree and at least one year of successful employment in education.
    • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and manuals. Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present and interface information with agencies, employees of organizations, and, if needed, to the general public.
    • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages, and apply introductory algebra and geometry.
    • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply basic skills. Ability to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
    • Physical Demands: The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. While performing this job, the employee must frequently sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities are required by this job and include close vision, the use of a computer, and a copy machine.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Include the following but not limited to and may require other duties.

    • Discuss the assigned teaching area with the classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.
    • Assist in teaching physically and mentally challenged students.
    • Plans, prepares and develops various teaching aids such as charts and graphs.
    • Presents subject matter to students, utilizing various methods and techniques, such as lecture, discussion, and supervised role-playing.
    • Prepares, administers, and grades examinations.
    • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
    • Confers with parents on the progress of students as required by the Special Education Director, Teacher, Principal, or Chief Academic Administrator

     

    Summary

    The  Special Education Paraprofessional of Southgate Academy District performs instructional tasks to individual students as assigned by the Chief Academic Administrator, Special Education Director, Principal, or classroom Teacher. The position of the Paraprofessional works for and in conjunction with the classroom, Teachers to successfully carry out the lessons, including curriculum and other instructional materials, to meet the individual needs of students, considering state and school requirements, physical, emotional, and educational levels of student development. Paraprofessionals shall comply with all duties required by the classroom Teacher to ensure state and local compliance is met. Paraprofessional relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish these goals.

     

    The  Special Education Paraprofessional , under the direction of the Special Education Director, general education Teacher, Principal, or Chief Academic Administrator, shall plan, prepare, and develop various teaching aids such as supplemental instructional curriculum, charts, and graphs on the academic subject according to the student’s individual needs, ability needs, abilities and interest. The Paraprofessionals present subject matter to students, utilizing various methods and techniques to meet the student’s objectives and goals. This may include but is not limited to sensory-monitor and perceptual-monitor development, perception, memory, language, cognition, and social and emotional development. The Paraprofessional confers with federal, state, and local school officials concerning changes/laws that would affect the District, alerts the classroom Teacher to any such changes/regulations, and executes these changes/laws in written form and the proper School District officials.

     

    The  Special Education Paraprofessional assists in implementing classroom instruction, student assessments, and student achievement. The Paraprofessional will attend local and statewide conferences and meetings as requested by the Special Education Director, Teacher, Principal, Chief Academic Administrator, or Superintendent and be responsible for any documentation required concerning students or any such documentation as specified by the Teacher, Principal, or Chief Academic Administrator.
