Being a Lactation Consultant is responsible for identifying and correcting lactation problems, and advising physicians and healthcare providers on lactation problems experienced by patients. Requires an associate degree in nursing or equivalent. Additionally, Lactation Consultant requires Registered Nurse (RN) License. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Lactation Consultant at Hackensack Meridian Health includes :
Assesses the patient's understanding of signs of adequate milk transfer and ability to independently perform breastfeeding techniques;
assesses the patient's understanding of inadequate infant nutrition or breastfeeding concerns and follow up assistance.
