Engineering Equipment Operator Supervisor.

  • Duties

    The incumbent is responsible for the accomplishment of maintenance activities on BLM access roads located in the assigned area. Included is the responsibility in the overall technical quality of all work performed, as well as the condition and appearance of the roadway and right-of-way. Ensures proper use and maintenance of all assigned equipment both light and heavy-duty equipment, such as gasoline or diesel power tractors, trucks and motor graders as well as hand tools and other equipment.

    The incumbent is responsible for planning the daily work of the crew and equipment as well as the methods and procedures to be used for all assigned maintenance activities. Adjusts work assignments of subordinates to take the best-advantage of weather conditions, time, manpower and equipment available.

    The incumbent also must possess the ability to operate all assigned equipment at the journeyman level and routinely operate gasoline, diesel powered motor graders, dump trucks, loaders, bulldozers, backhoe, brush cutter, sweeper, excavator, roller, chip spreader, and various hand operated tools.

    Qualifications

    To qualify, there is no specific length of training or experience required; however, your resume must demonstrate enough experience to show your ability to lead and supervise in performing the duties of a Engineering Equipment Operator Supervisor without more than normal supervision. Examples of such experience include: (1) Operating a variety of heavy equipment such as motor graders, backhoe/loaders, crawler tractors with dozer, scrapers, or other heavy equipment; (2) Constructing and maintaining roads, earth dams, reservoirs, dikes and diversions, spring developments, water pipeline systems, fences, and signs to maintain facilities; (3) Instructing operators in the operation, maintenance, and repair of diesel or gasoline powered equipment such as trucks, tractors, loaders, and motor graders; and (4) Reading blueprints, work orders/instructions, maps, technical guides, and construction stakes to carry-out construction projects related to the layout, design, and construction of range improvement projects.

    SELECTIVE FACTOR: SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position has a Selective Placement Factor (screen-out) which will be used to determine minimum qualifications for this position. Applicants not possessing this Selective Placement Factor will be found ineligible for this position. The Selective Placement Factor is: Possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements by the entrance on duty date.

    Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Part-time or Unpaid Experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held.

    Physical Effort: The work is very physical, involving use of hands, arms, feet, and legs in lifting, bending, walking, climbing, shoveling, etc. and operating equipment. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and by hazardous work conditions on steep slopes and rough terrain. The incumbent will wear protective devices when operating noisy and dusty machines and on construction/maintenance sites. Will frequently be required to work in awkward or strained positions. The work will be very tiring due to the above conditions performed over extended periods of time.

    Work Environment: Engineering Equipment Operator duties are primarily field-related and extended periods of time in the field are to be expected. Work is performed in all types of weather often in an open driver's seat on hills, steep slopes, or grades and in timbered areas. The incumbent will be exposed to fuel, grease, fumes, smoke, noise, vibration, dust, mud, and ice. Clothing and skin will become dirty, muddy, and greasy. There are many potential hazards while performing construction and maintenance work. The operator is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning, cave ins, falling rocks or tree branches. Incumbent should be alert to these hazards and be prepared to cope with them before they become a problem. The incumbent must be able to operate heavy equipment under extreme temperatures ranging from well below 0 to above 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

    Education

    There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
