Wilson Legal Group is a recently formed solo law firm headquartered in downtown Charleston, WV. Our primary practice areas are real estate transactions, simple estate planning, and immigration assistance.
We are now hiring a paralegal or legal assistant who can be part of our growing team. The ideal candidate will have experience in real estate closings, especially residential, or be willing to receive training on real estate closings. Job duties may include client facing tasks such as scheduling closings, preparing settlement statements, title searches and abstracting, and communication with all parties to the transaction.
Immigration services include filling out forms ranging from family based green cards, asylum claims, adjustment of status, naturalization, and other types of assistance. Job duties include scheduling meetings, intake, client communication, and other tasks. The position requires working with a number of individuals, including those whose first language may not be English. This may also include working with clients who do not have legal status in the United States, including those in removal or deportation proceedings.
Both the real estate and immigration services require learning two client management systems, called E-Closing (for real estate) and Docketwise (for immigration).
General Duties
- Conduct legal research and gather relevant information for cases
- Assist attorney in drafting legal documents, such as contracts, pleadings, and briefs
- Organize and maintain legal files and documents
- Prepare and file court documents, including pleadings, motions, and subpoenas
- Schedule appointments and manage attorney calendars
- Communicate with clients, witnesses, and other parties involved in legal proceedings
- Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of case information
- Assist with project management tasks, such as coordinating meetings and tracking deadlines
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal, or equivalent experience and willingness to learn
- Proficiency in legal research tools such as Westlaw or LexisNexis
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology and procedures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience with file management systems and document management software
