Library Services Manager manages the daily planning, staff, and operations for the acquisition, classification, maintenance, licensing, and distribution of print and digital materials to meet the information needs of library users. Coordinates process to research, review, identify and procure new materials to develop the library's collection. Being a Library Services Manager performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Develops and oversees support, service, and technology resources to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, Library Services Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Library Services Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Library Services Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Under the general direction of the User Experience Manager, the Patron Services Librarian offers convenient service to all library users through a variety of contact methods (such as phone, email, and live chat); provides circulation, reference and general information assistance; serves as remote support for KDL branch staff; and serves as a model for KDL’s Service Priorities.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Provides reference and information services to library patrons. Duties include, but are not limited to: receiving and answering of questions regarding collections, library services and policies; interpreting patron needs.Conducts research necessary to obtain sources of information; obtaining copies of information through inter and intra-library loans; assisting patrons in the use of subject specialty materials; and recording reference statistics.Assists patrons in their search for library materials; provides material's advisory and reference interview services as needed, by utilizing ILS, print sources, KDL electronic databases and Internet on-line tools with proficiency.Participates in blogging and social media in support of library initiatives and operations.Facilitates, instructs and assists Library staff, volunteers, and patrons in basic technical support, maintenance and troubleshooting in the use of a variety of library equipment such as copy machines, eReaders, basic computer hardware and software, on-line tools, and with one-on-one tech tutoring.Assists in planning, organizing and implementing of Library programs and special projects for KDL that meet patron needs, including underserved communities.Pursues professional development by serving on KDL committees, and attending meetings, workshops, and conferences to maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills of pertinent Library policies, procedures and equipment.Performs other clerical tasks upon request, including materials order entry, supply ordering, word processing, filing, checking in new periodicals, sorts and distributes U.S. and inter-office mail etc.Serves the public by checking in and out library materials, collecting money for lost and damaged materials, issues new/replacement library cards, registers new patrons and processes name and address changes.Effectively facilitates access to KDL’s digital collection by providing demonstrations of and assistance with multiple format eReader devices and applications. Ensures circulation policies and procedures are followed for the proper handling of customer and material records for an accurate library database. This includes data entry of late, lost, damaged, and claims returned items, and patron information including necessary notes.Provides branch staff with remote support and problem-solving in order to streamline services related but not limited to: the ILS, general library process, and KDL policies and procedures.Runs reports and lists for item hold information and inter-library loan requests. Provides lists to others for purposes of retrieving items requested, and routes items appropriately. Contacts patrons or other libraries as necessary.Provides information to customers regarding the Library’s circulation policies, procedures and refers issues to branch management as appropriate.Answers all TBBC calls, troubleshoots TBBC issues, and escalates when needed to the Accessibility and Inclusion Specialist. Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
KDL provides library services to our local communities seven days per week.Position will require some evening and weekend hours. The person supporting this role will need to be available to work the following schedule: Weeks 1, 3 & 4: Monday 11:45-8:15, Tuesday 9-1, Friday 9:45-6:15. Week 2: Monday 11:45-8:15, Tuesday 9-5:30, Saturday 9:15-5:15, AFTER LABOR DAY: Week 1: Monday 11:45-8:15, Tuesday 9-1, Saturday 9:15-5:15, Sunday 12:45-5:15, Week 2, 3 & 4: Monday 11:45-8:15, Tuesday 9-5:30, Friday 9:45-6:15 While this position is currently assigned to the above location, KDL reserves the right to require employees to be available for assignments at any KDL location.Kent District Library is recognized as one of the Best & Brightest Companies to Work for in West Michigan 2019.
