Position overview:
Buskirk Lumber, in Freeport, Michigan is hiring for an assistant hardwood log scaler. This is a great opportunity for an individual with prior scaling and/or log grading experience; however, we would be willing to train the right candidate. This person would be responsible for assisting our log scaler with identifying log species, type and grade and scaling the log based on diameter and length.
Hardwood log scaler responsibilities:
1. Identify log types/species, grade and scale logs measuring length and diameter
2. Enter information into handheld and download onto desktop computer
3. Operate wheel loader and chain saw as needed
4. Work safely and help maintain a safe work environment
Hardwood log scaler qualifications/skills:
1. Previous log grading experience preferred but not required
2. Driver’s license with a reliable means of transportation
3. Ability to work in a fast paced manufacturing environment with a focus on safety and accuracy
4. Good communication skills
5. Attention to detail
6. Problem solving
7. Able to operate a handheld device and use a measuring device (log ruler) accurately
8. Ability to stand for extended periods of time
9. Dependable and honest
10. Able to work independently and take initiative
Hardwoods log scaler benefits:
