WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Scene Shop Supervisor supports the Technical Direction team in supervising the construction, load-in, and strike of all scenic elements, as well as the maintenance of tools, shop, and theater spaces.

• Lead the scene shop in ensuring the quality and flow of work from build through the strike of each production, as outlined by the Technical Direction Team.
• Assist in creation of build calendars, load in and strike plans.
• Maintain a clean, safe, & organized work environment.
• Create & oversee "Maintenance & Repair Log" for all powered tools.
• Store & organize tool manuals
• Perform basic tool repairs as needed
• Inform Technical Director if additional replacement parts are needed and/or when tools will be out of service for extended periods of time.
• Perform periodic checks of shop consumables (i.e. bolts, screws, glue, & etc.) and report to TD when restocking is needed.
• Oversee tool usage. Instruct and correct users to ensure proper tool use and care in the shop.
• Ensure that all full-time and temporary staff use proper personal safety equipment in all aspects of work.

REQUIREMENTS:

• At least 3 years experience in a professional scene shop, preferably in a supervisory capacity
• Experienced with standard industry carpentry practices including framing carpentry, finish carpentry, welding & metal work.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in safe scenic construction techniques and theatrical and arena rigging.
• Mechanical knowledge and experience as it applies to theatrical effects including winches, hydraulics, and pneumatics involving complex integration across multiple axes.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
• Ability to adapt to frequently changing circumstances, work collaboratively with other employees and guest artists, and maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations
• Ability to oversee and maintain organization of concurrent projects
• Ability to read and execute blueprints/schematics.
