Overview: The primary responsibility of the Day Manager is to ensure the success of the weekly seasonal market during all market hours. Additional responsibilities include tracking and recording weekly market attendance and writing a weekly summary report after each market. Planning and distributing the weekly market map may be added.  Key duties include:

• Operational Oversight: Manage all logistics of the weekly market using the Market Set-up/Breakdown Manual as a guide;  if there are volunteers to assist with set-up or break down, the Day Manager is to guide them and oversee their work;  maintain cleanliness and safety of market space; ensure that no vehicles enter the market space between 8:30 am - 1:00 pm; be familiar with AFM policies (thunderstorm, Active Shooter) - lead and implement if needed; take notes, write, and submit weekly summary report after each market.
• Vendor Management:  Welcome vendors to the market and be their primary point of contact during market hours; direct vendors to their designated location as they arrive; guide and adjust market layout based on last minute cancellations or changes; be familiar with AFM Rules and Regulations to ensure adherence by vendors; periodically circulate through the market to check in with vendors, build relationships, offer water and assistance as needed.
• Music: Understand music schedule for the day; set up and break-down tent, chairs, and sound equipment; act as the primary contact for musicians; oversee musicians who are unloading instruments while market is open and direct them to designated vendor parking.
• Market Day Programs and Activities: Be familiar with themes and programs happening each market day;  welcome community partners and any special guests; answer questions and offer assistance, as needed.
• Customer Engagement: Demonstrate outstanding customer service by welcoming and engaging with shoppers, addressing questions, directing people to the information/SNAP table, and being familiar with all that is happening each market day, locations of vendors and the products they are selling.
• Promotional Activities: As you see things that would help promote the market (photo ops, etc), share with social media leads.
• Additional duties may be determined by the AFM Team, based on interest and experience.

Schedule: This is a seasonally-focused, hourly position. During the market season, attendance at the market is required on Saturdays June 15 - October 12, 2024 from 7:00am-1:45pm. The market takes place rain or shine, at the market site (South Church in Andover, 41 Central Street, Andover, MA). Additional hours available for report-writing and communications as long as hours do not exceed state laws and AFM budget. Additional hours are budgeted to support pre-season planning and training. There may be additional opportunities to work at special events. .

Reporting and Compensation: The Market Day Manager is an employee of South Church of Andover, dba Andover Farmers Market, and will be under the direction of the Andover Farmers Market Team. This is a part-time, non-exempt, non-benefited position. Pay will be determined based on experience and will be paid bi-weekly. Additionally, employment is contingent upon passing the CORI background check and providing US work authorization.
