Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. The Medical Interpreter / Translator provides interpretation and translation, both written and verbal, of the English / Spanish language to facilitate delivery of health care services to Spanish speaking patients.
Your role is vital in bridging the gap for our Spanish speaking patients by teaming up with a provider to assist in any interpretation needs.
Other duties include assisting with billing, scheduling, patient follow ups, updating patient charts, and performing other office duties as assigned.
This position is an office clinical setting. Prior medical translating experience is preferred.
Must be fluent in Spanish.
Qualifications : High School diploma or GED. Experience working in a healthcare setting. Experience / ability to use telephones and computers.
Ability to work well as a team member. Ability to work well and relate to client population. Basic typing / filing. Basic familiarity with various types of office equipment, including copiers, fax machine, shredders etc.
