Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. SUMMARY:
The Spanish Interpreter is responsible for providing verbal and written translation services to facilitate communication between Spanish-speaking Team Members and English-speaking Team Members. Ability to interpret accurately for all levels of team members. Ability to interpret documents accurately from English to Spanish and vice versa. Must be able to provide effective communication services in a variety of settings. this includes, but is not limited to, assisting with physicals and doctor appointments, social services, business meetings, orientation, and investigations. Interpretation for non-English-speaking team members at the doctor's office. This position requires a high level of cultural and linguistic competence.
Other tasks or miscellaneous duties as assigned by the supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Experience:
100% Bilingual English and Spanish both verbal and written. Good general knowledge of the production areas and management personnel. Skilled in accurate interpretation.
Communication Skills:
Must be able to communicate, interpret and translate effectively in verbal and written format, English and Spanish and translate written documents. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels of team members.
Successful candidate will be required to complete a language assessment and pass with a score of 90% or better.
Confidentiality:
Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions.
Computer Skills:
Basic computer skills required. Primarily Microsoft 365 programs such as, Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Special Skills:
Ability to drive a company vehicle. Must carry a valid driver's license. Class D Chauffeur's License is preferred. Excellent people skills and a willingness to assist as needed. Ability to work under little supervision.
