Medical Staff Credentialing Supervisor oversees day-to-day activities of staff that process credentialing and recredentialing applications for health care providers. Implements department procedures to facilitate organized and up-to-date provider databases. Being a Medical Staff Credentialing Supervisor administers system for tracking license and certification expirations to ensure renewals are submitted in a timely fashion. Ensures that applications are properly verified and accurately uploaded into an online credentialing database system. Additionally, Medical Staff Credentialing Supervisor resolves complex questions regarding credentialing or provider database maintenance and best practices. Prepares reports on applications and credentialing status to identify trends and improve the credentialing process. May require a bachelor's degree. May require Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS). Typically reports to a manager. The Medical Staff Credentialing Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Medical Staff Credentialing Supervisor typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Responsibilities

    Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization’s values; adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; requires regular and prompt attendance; works the assigned schedule including overtime as required; assists with the orientation of new employees; requires minimal supervision to safely perform functions; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving equipment and or supplies that is necessary to perform essential functions; verifies education, medical school or ECFMG , internship, residency and fellowship and obtains reference from program director for residency and/or fellowship for initial appointments; obtains references from other hospitals and physicians for initial appointments and reappointments; obtains AMA information for initial appointments and reappointments via the Internet; verifies current state licensure, state controlled certificate, DEA, Board Certification, various other required certifications at initial appointments and reappointments via the Internet; Queries for criminal background checks via the Internet for initial appointments when applicable; verifies Medicare sanctions for initial appointments and reappointments, queries National Practitioner Data Bank on all initial appointments and reappointments; prepares initial and reappointment packets to submit to the Coordinator for presentation to the USA Hospitals Combined Credentials Committee for review and approval; prepares and processes temporay privileges as needed for initial applications or Important Patient Need applications with approval of appropriate Department/Service Line Chair(s) and Hospital Administration; Assist with the processing and distributing the board letter to all appointees after privileges are granted; prepares and distributes/mails reappointment packets; maintains the credientialing software by scanning and uploading privileges to the intranet as privileges are granted at initial appointments and reappointments; follows up with the Department/Service Line Chair(s) concerning privilege checklists, requesting additional documentation or training as needed; send invitation to the Medical Staff and accept the RSVPs to the General Medical Staff Meeting help up to 2 times each year (this is an evening function after work hours); prepare agenda and packets for the General Medical Staff Meeting; orders office supplies as needed; prepares various reports as required; processing request for hospital affiliation letters and volume reports; processing PMM forms to add or revise physicians to the various computer programs used throughout USA Health; maintains accurate and complete credentialing files to include he paper file, electronic, software data, and electronic storage files; maintains office filling system; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, healthcare team and staff in person, via written correspondence such as emails, and via telephone; accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict; cooperates, helps others and improves the performance of the credentialing team; completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements; utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards.

    Qualifications

    High school diploma or equivalent and five years secretarial/clerical experience in a medical business office, one year of which was in medical credentialing.
