Medical Technologist - Microbiology jobs in New Mexico
Medical Technologist - Microbiology performs a variety of microbiological procedures in order to cultivate, isolate and identify microorganisms in skin scrapings, exudates, body fluids and surgical specimens. Conducts routine and specialized microbiological procedures, including virological, mycological, bacteriological, and parasitological assays for use in diagnosing and treating disease. Being a Medical Technologist - Microbiology verifies accuracy of findings, identifies test inconsistencies, and takes appropriate action to make corrections and resolve problems. Operates, cleans, and maintains laboratory equipment used in microbiological analysis and procedures. Additionally, Medical Technologist - Microbiology requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires an American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or its equivalent. May require a state license to practice. Medical Technologist - Microbiology's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. Trusted Staffe is partnering with a leading regional medical center in Las Cruces, NM to find a skilled and dedicated Medical Laboratory Scientist specializing in Microbiology. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate and detail-oriented laboratory professional to play a vital role in patient care by performing a wide range of microbiological analyses.
Responsibilities- Perform a comprehensive range of microbiological tests on various patient specimens, including blood, urine, body fluids, and tissues.
- Accurately analyze, interpret, and report test results to support physician diagnosis and treatment decisions.
- Maintain a sterile and safe laboratory environment, adhering to strict safety protocols and infection control guidelines.
- Operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
- Participate in quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Stay current on the latest advancements in microbiology testing methodologies.
- Document laboratory procedures and findings meticulously.
- Collaborate effectively with laboratory colleagues, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- May participate in the training and development of new laboratory personnel.
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) from an accredited program.
- ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) certification in Medical Technology (MT) or equivalent certification.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a clinical laboratory setting, preferably in an acute care facility (2 years preferred).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient in computer skills and laboratory information systems (LIS).
